I don't believe in the concept of soulmates, simply because that would smack of predestination, something I don't believe in. I choose who I spend my life with, it's not already pre-chosen for me.

Well that's a good question. I know for sure in the Bible though that some people prayed for a kid and got one and other stories like Ester marrying the Persian King Ahasuerus. He saw her and immediately he stop the searching for a queen and married her. Ester being queen she was able to prevent the persecution of her people from the evil minister Haman. So you could say that they were soul mates that allowed themselves to be led to each other to the good of a persecuted people and they loved each other too. So in the aspect of soul mates it is possible, I believe that God has a plan for all of our lives but we have the free will go with the plan or not to and do our own thing.

Firstly, I love my wife and am glad she is with me - I don't want to live with anyone else.

I think soulmates is a made-up belief. It's part of our ego thought system that makes us think that our needs are all outside of ourselves -- that we need a specific relationship, person, career, identity, etc. to be happy. Special relationships are the cornerstone of our ego thought system and they emphasize the idea that we're these individuals who are lacking. 'Soulmate' is the highest ideal in the whole ego's special relationship mechanism, where it thinks that there's this special one-and-only someone out therer who is meant for each of us. This just supports our own ideas about our own specialness and that we need things that are not already within us to be happy.

Concentrating on finding a soul mate and then thinking that one has found one are only going to lead to problems because all of our expectations and romanticized ideals are projected onto the other person and their humanness is lost. When they fail to live up to our expectations (may take 10 years or so), we'll be let down and then go searching again.

Instead, the best way to have a good relationship: try to get ourselves out of the way. Although we want to find people who are compatible and healthy-minded, we also want to realize the fact that people are human and will have negative thoughts abour us even if they profess love. Seeing ourselves and our mates as equals who lack nothing but who want to share their lives in a compatible way is the key -- equals without lack who are not looking for the other to fulfill their needs.

I dont know if I exactly like to use the term "soul mate" but I believe there is someone who more or less "completes" you and this person you keep around for a life time. Doesnt have to be a lover or spouse, may be a family member or dear friend. Yes I have found mine :)

Yes I believe in soulmates, and I am married to mine. In short, till I found him I just felt incomplete. The moment I met him I knew he was the one. :)

No, there is no such thing as a "soulmate". For proof, see Matthew 22:24-30.

I don't believe in soul-mates, but I have found the one woman for me.

I meet her at her work, and within days we knew that we would be spending the rest of our lives together.
