They are just trying to get the tribe to pay their tuition. In some cases they may just be trying to get a government job.

Some people are not lying and some are merely passing down family folklore that they have not bothered checking the accuracy of. Yes some heinous crimes like rape occurred but there also was some intermarriage.
My great great great great grandmother was Native American. The tribe she was in was practically wiped out in a smallpox epidemic and she was adopted into a white christian family and raised a christian and given a christian name. How do I know this? I have her daughter's Bible which has this handwritten information. From my own research I suspect she was from either the Abenaki or the Penobscot Nation. However, most people are not as lucky to be able to have their native lines verified as I have because the records are lacking especially the further back you go.

Gee look like you have so much anger in you. I hate to disappoint you, but my great grandma was married to a Indian and have two childrens. So that make me 1/8 indian.
However I rarely say I'm part indian because I'm basically part french, Poland, Irish, German, Dutch, and English. I just say I'm mostly Irish, Dutch, and German. So I don't see how that make me so damn cool.
Well I guess your people (Indian) raped my white great grandma and force her into marriage then. That make your people worse, great job on making your people look like barbarains.

Why I am sure interracial rape did occur, intermarriage has also occured between whites and Native Americans.
