dont freak out. my brother is 10 yrs old and doe the same thing. i think its okay. your son might not be able to breath correctly through his nose. thats my brothers problem. tell your son to wash inside his nose everyday. dont let any booooogers build up. that may cause him to open his mouth so that he can breath easier. or if that doesnt help then he has those muscles or tissues in the back of his nose that are getting big and they need to be taken out. or im not sure where they are. but you get the idea. dont freak out and you cant change him.

Ask your dentist if your son needs to be referred to an orthodontist. His bite may be out of alignment meaning he HAS to keep his mouth open.

It could be that he is not breathing right. Ask if he can breath (and that he tries in front of you)from his nose. If he can't it could be severe alergies, and he is breathing from his mouth(reason it always open)does he suffer from asma? It could be a sign too.

Maybe he is trying something new? I am not trying to be rude or anything but does he have any kind of mental or physical problems that might pertain to this?

Take him to an ENT; he might be having trouble breathing through his nose.
