I am trying to pick out a German Shepherd from a local rescue group or breeder but I am not sure what color to choose. That's because I have read before that white Shepherds are more difficult than other shepherds. I also heard that black Shepherds are easier to train.

I have loved German Shepherds since I was in the 3rd grade and I have read every book I could find on caring for them and such. I have read a few that have said that the color might affect how smart the dog is. I was not sure if it was true or not about some Shepherds. The reason why some books probably said this this was because they can be deaf. Thank you all for your help and it will definitely help me in choosing the right GSD puppy for me.

Ive never heard that before, my parents had a beautiful white German Shepard named Regina , she was an amazing dog, super smart ,easy to teach, loving and a great watch dog. She died in my fathers arms at the age of 12 ,diagnosed with inoperable cancer, she was in great pain and difficult as it was for my father, he and the vet put her to rest. My father still tears up when he talks about her. I'm sorry the question just brought back memories. Good luck choosing your furry friend, Try a breed rescue before a breeder.

That is incorrect, while an albino (not just white) may have more genetic problems, I don't see any relationship to a coat color having any bearing on ones ability to learn.
That would be like saying women with red hair are smarter than
women with black hair.
You will have some whites that are smart, learn quickly and retain the lesson.
You can also have a black & tan that is as dumb as a rock.
Been there......done that...... with a black & tan.

No, white shepherds are the same, unless they came from a lousy breeder.
Black shepherds are not any easier than any other German shepherd.
Good, positive training methods will pay off with any good GSD
They all do fine in obedience trials, and ring sport.

It's true that white shepherds are usually deaf. That would make training much more difficult. If you can find a white one with brown eyes you may have a chance. White w/ blue eyes is almost guaranteed to be deaf.

White German Shepherds are often deaf, which could make them difficult to train. Many reputable breeders destroy any white puppies because they carry bad genetics.

No, that is incorrect, as a matter of fact, white shepherds are just as smart. and even more family oriented dogs as far as loyalty. and they usually pick one person in the family to be truely loyal to. They are more social than black/tan.

I have a white German Shepherd and it is almost impossible to train him!! Everytime I come home he jumps on me. When I'm going to let him outside he runs and almosts knocks me down. When I go to the restroom he scractches at the door as I closing it because he doesn't want to be left alone.... I could go on and on but I would never get rid of him because in spite of all the bad things he does, I love him dearly

well of course the white German Sheppard is harder to train because he thinks he is from a Aryn breed and far superior to all other breeds - you got to watch them real close cuz they might want to take over your home first then the community and then there's no stopping them.
Remember the only thing he will ever know to do is heil.

No color of the dog has nothing to do with training.
It takes time and effort and work on your part no matter what breed or color the dog.is.

Nope, that's a myth. Coat color has nothing to do with intellegence and personality.
Get one from a rescue. You are saving a life and get lots of "extras" for one low price.
