is good advice. But don't skip studying. Spanish can be very useful.
The verb "empezar" is a stem-changing verb, meaning the first part of the word changes when you conjugate it. (It stem changes to "ie"; therefore it's empIEzo, not empezo)

Nosotros empezamos
Ustedes empiezan

The most commonly used verbs for "begin" are empezar and comencer. The way they conjugate is a little irregular.
