I hope you wont say "because he was borne by a woman", because that is not particular to Jesus at all and that reasoning will let any person call themself a son or daughter of man.

To be the Messiah Jesus must be born of a woman i.e. wholy human and the manifestation of God incarnate.

Son of man referenced to the Israelites that jesus is the Messiah. It is really a figure of speach for the time in which he was human.

Saying son of God really does not work. We all are products of God's creation knit together by God in our mothers womb so we all can claim to be son or daughter of God.

I got into an email discussion about this the other day and this woman informed me that god uses "Man", "Son of Man" and "Son of God" interchangeably throughout the Bible. There is some mystical way that you know which one is being referred to if you are a Christian.

Because it says in the Bible that Man and Women were made in God's image. So we are in God's image and God is in our image. So Jesus is the son of God and the Son of Man.

I do not know where you got this, Jesus is not the son of man, Jesus is the son of God, Joseph, his father on earth, even acknowledged Jesus as the Son of God on his deathbed.

because in the OT the Messiah was refered to as the Son of Man, meaning that God would be in human flesh. That is why when the Pharisees asked Jesus who He was and He said that He was the Son of Man, (Since they were priests and were awear of the OT passages) they said He commited blashpemy because He alluded to Himself as God. That is why He calls Himself the Son of Man

He is called the Son of Man because he was born of man-kind - just because it says 'mankind' does not mean it doesn't include women. He was part son of Man part son of God. hope this helps.....keep in the faith!

personally, I believe 'son of man' just means "human being". I have no idea why it has become a reference to jesus/god/messiah, or whatever.

that said, the bible says that the son of man holds no salvation.

Update: Jared, that only makes sense in english, but not in hebrew -- the language the bible was written in. (and even then its not so compelling, to be honest.)

because even though he is the son of god he was born of man to seek and save the human race. he is god's son but god's son through man.
