In my last question
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=A9j8a03dLqREQ0YAZQPsy6IX?qid=20060627212333AA1kmy9 I said that I think that if you call illegal immigrants "criminals " for breaking the law when they entered into the U.S. then you must also consider yourself a criminal if you have gotten a speeding ticket, if you have driven without a license or insurance or even if you have gotten also something small like a parking ticket, because you also broke the law. Many people said that you can't compare what I have listed above to entering illegally to the U.S. BUT you can't also compare crossing illegally to feed your family to murder, assaults, kidnapping, or rape. So people who commit this crimes are CRIMINALS. BUT I do not think that anti-illegals should call illegal immigrants criminals just as these people. You CAN'T compare entering to the u.s. illegally to feed your family to raping someone. Don't you think?

But if you are going to compare the raping to entering illegally to a country to feed your family, I'll also compare a parking ticket to entering illegally to the U.S.

Yes, I see your point and I agree. There are different degrees for crimes. Ok so we can't compare illegal immigrations to a speeding ticket, but we can't also compare it to rape or murder.

This converation seems to have gone off the point. I don't think you are a village idiot and I think it's unfair to say you are.
The thing is this, it is illeagl to come into America without the proper documentation. It is illeagal to work here without being properly authorised. It is not possible to draw a comparison between this breaking of the law and other forms of breaking the law... If you break the law you are a criminal. That is the end of it pure and simply.
I understand what you are saying about people coming here to better their lives, and they take that risk by doing it illeagally, however it is still wrong.
I am a foreigner, from the UK, and I have spent a lot of money and time making sure I am here legally, which means for the last 12 months we have been living on just my husband's wage. Soon I will be legal and able to work, and I can't wait!
I think the US government needs to develop a program for people in countries that are struggling economically to come into the US to work the jobs that US citizens don't want to work. A similar program was introduced in the UK in the 1960's. It brought Jamacians to the UK because the UK people wouldn't work certain jobs. I know this sounds like another form of slavery, and I guess it is, however it gave people a chance to better their life situations.
Illeagal immigrants make life very unfair for legal immigrants like myself. It makes my husband very angry that he works hard, fights for his country, (he is military), and paid a great deal of money to have me here, not to mention the stress, and people are jumping the fence with not enough consequences.
I hope the government comes up with a solution soon.
I loved the leaky boat analogy!!

In all honesty it is against the law to come here illegally but what can one do when their is no other choice. And yes their is no other choice, when you can't find a job to feed your family or if you try to enter the country legally you would have to wait years and years. I think that the problem starts and ends with governments yes, not only those south of the border but also the one in Washington. We should start there before putting the blame on those that have to cross illegally.

You must be really stupid. Do you understand English? ( ¿Usted entiende inglés? )
You keep bring up these things have nothing to do with the issue at hand of illegal immigration. Not only are they breaking the law by being here, but they use falsified ID, etc. The difference between them breaking the law and US citizens that break the law, is that the illegals DON'T belong here. If a citizen breaks the law then they must face the penalty for their actions. But then again none of this has anything to do with the fact that the illegals are criminals. You people keep attempting to cloud the issue with nonsense and things that have nothing to do with it. Do you really think we are that stupid to fall for your distraction techniques? If a person is here illegally then they are a criminal and must be deported. Period! All of this other nonsense you are the others bring up has no bearing.

No, you were right. A crime is a crime. Like Spartan Rob said though, A parking ticket or speeding ticket is a Civil Offense, not criminal.... Murder, rape, theft etc. are criminal offenses, so is crossing our border illegally. You had your answer in your last question, you just chose to ignore it, like I am sure you will do again....
ika1186, Whoah, whoah, whoah! Back up! We owe them NOTHING! We don't have to let anyone come here, and they are all lucky we give them the opportunity. America is such a giving nation, that it is now expected, and that is a bunch of crap! We owe NOTHING TO NO ONE!! So stop acting like illegals have a right to be here!

if they need to feed their family, there are plenty of legal ways to do it. this includes following the proper channels to gain legal entry into the US. the real issue here is not whether they are criminals or not, or even what to do with them if they are criminals, but what we are going to do to stop more of them from coming into our sovereign country. if you're in a boat with a leak, you don't immediately worry about the water that is already in the boat. you plug the leak first. then deal with the water. if we want to solve the problem with illegal immigration, we have to first prevent it from continuing. after that we can all sit down and look at these illegal immigrants as people (as opposed to potential voters or potential taxpayers). they are people, just like you and me, and they want to live their own lives just like anyone else. they simply chose to do it in a way that is contrary to this country's laws. our country has deemed that it is unacceptable for anyone to enter our country without proper authorization. this makes anyone who enters without the consent of the government technically a criminal. do I classify them as criminals in the same sense as murderers and rapists or speeders and people who don't pay their parking meters? no. I do believe that they should be held accountable, in a humane and respectful way, for the crime that they have committed.

so it is fair for you to compare sneaking illegally into the country, which is breaking and entering, with speeding tickets, but no one else can compare them to rapists and murderers? so ONLY YOU can have double standards?
you are a DUMBASS.
most of the criminals in the country are illegals, they rape, steal, and kill. sneaking into the country is a crime, and people who commit crimes = CRIMINALS. speeding tickets are called "moving violations". illegal is illegal. i guess when you are uneducated, the il part confuses you?
everything illegals do is illegal

Rape, murder, assault and kidnapping are terrible crimes and they cant be compared to illegal immigration but illegal immigration is still a crime. let me tell you that immigration cannot be compared to speeding or any other minor crime. also, you dont know if those immigrants were criminals in their home country. theres no way to tell unless their is a way to control the immigration.
