I have two Bichons one is 3 and the other is 5. I think that it really depends on the dog. My 3 year old is very active. She would chase a ball for ever if you would keep throwing it. My 5 year old has always been real laid back. He would rather lay around than do anything else.
Have you put the dog thru obiedeince training? Are you giving it enough exercise? A tired dog is a good dog. Just some suggestions to try.

I'm not sure what exactly you're expecting, but many dogs, even when older and mature can still play and act like puppies. You might want to do some investigating of this breed. Maybe they always have a higher activity level than the more sedate breeds. If so, at least you'll know and can get used to it. Akc.org has info on each breed and often links to the breeds own national website.

ummm.....give him/her 6-7 years; he'll start to slow down a bit.....11-12 years....it'll start to get serious and act more mature. Actually you will have a dog that is a puppy at heart for years to come. Enjoy it!

hopefully they never stop playing and "get serious" - it's a dog, not a person!! Dogs love to play, and it's a great stress reducer to play with them, you'll both enjoy it!
