It's true that the police are not in disguise physically, but that was not the question. the question is in respect to the mentality of an officer. The real answer is both "good guys and "monsters hiding behind a badge" I know this because I am an officer, and have meet both while doing this job. The fact is that most officer are good men and women who do not abuse police powers. There is a small percentage who do, this is a reality and departments do there best to screen these people out. The statement about officer being angry people who are just mad that they did not go to college and are working in a dangerous job for low pay is not at all true. At least half of all officer hold a batchelor degree. Most do not hate their job our their career choice. Also, no one goes into this career for the income. I know there are a lot of people who dislike the police, but most of those people have had dealings with the police because either A. They have drug issues. B. They have domestic violence and anger issues. C. They steal from innocent and not so inocent people. D. They were pulled over for speeding, equipment violations or traffic violations. The last group usually are mature enough to take accounatbility for their mistake and move on. I too have recieved traffic tickets, and I was in violation, big deal I got over it. Anyway, the police will always have trouble pleasing everyone. For example: Last night my partner and I got into a fight with a mentally ill man who had a knife. My partner was sliced and stuck once, niether were too severe. We gained control, fortunately without using deadly force and the incident was over. It took some time to have the man look at by EMS and then booked into jail. The next call we showed up to was a stolen bike that had been on hold 45 minutes. The victim of the theft told us that we were lazy, and that we should just go back to 7-11 and drink our coffee. We didn't bother to mention anything about the man with the knife because it wouldn't have cahnged her perspective, she thought the world revolved around her. Sorry people, but there is a hirarchy of priorities and if no one is dyng or fighting you may have to wait to file a report on something not life or death. This is especially true in a bigger city. Well, I guess I just got on a soap box. All in all, most cops are decent men and women who enjoy their job and do not have a heavy badge. Just remeber that simply because a cop wrote you a ticket or transported you to jail does not mean he is a monster, maybe the reality is that you did something wrong. We are all human and we all make mistakes. Not everyone that goes to jail is a bad person. The vast majority of these people are good people who make mistakes just like everyone else. Also remember that being polite right of the bat will get you a long way with a good cop. . .with a bad cop. . .well good luck they are a different breed.

well said Josh.
There's good and bad in all - having a badge doesn't change that. The general public hasn't a clue and if in the same situation they might be worse. It's not like on "Cops". But attitude does count. You want to deal with a jerk be a jerk. I've met some of both but even the good guys have bad days. It seems like they are supposed to be perfect. The other ones that get me are the ones complaining it "took so long" are the same ones that when they're not waiting drive along ignoring the sirens and flashing lights behind them! Turn the radio down folks and glance in the rear view once in a while! It might be a life at stake.
There are people who have gotten more time for beating a dog than killing a cop. Not excusing cruelty but come on - what's the value of a life? In IL it's 18 months for dragging an officer. Within a year in the same general area a county sheriff serving a "routine" warrant met with a gun blast through the door - he died before the medivac got there.
They deal with people with no regard for life day in and day out. They give you a ticket not to meet the quota for the month but maybe that speeding ticket will get through to you to SLOW DOWN so your sorry life isn't the next one being pulled out of a crumpled car. They have people spit at them and assault them and they're expected to just buck up and take it because that's part of the job (which there is no money enough to pay). And when they get to a scene and it's someone they know they still have to deal with it professionally. Even when off duty they aren't - recently an officer near Birmingham was shot when he noticed a robbery going down as he headed into an auto parts store. I have a good friend with a scar on his arm from a stab wound breaking up a fight. They see things the majority of the public couldn't handle - things that couldn't be shown on tv. They don't have "normal lives" because that's expected to be given up when they take the badge. The good guys out there every day making a difference there is not enough money to pay them. The ones that tarnish the image there's not enough punishment for. JMO.
I've met up with officers that had every reason to for a couple hours make life miserable. Quite some time ago I'd just bought a new car - was coming back from a trip out of state and was pulled over for no tag (he didn't see the sticker in the window, just no tag, no big deal). But while stopped the dog alerted on one particular spot on the car...I knew what it meant and I knew what they had the right to do. I've never messed with it so had nothing to hide - opened the trunk...nothing found but there was no mistaking the dog's alert. All things considered both officers were very considerate and professional (kudos to the IL State Patrol btw).
There is seldom anything done without a reason. I've met one officer who was a real jerk - but a bunch that weren't but could be if you wanted them to be! And the one - who knows...maybe was having a bad day.
Hats off to all of 'em who are there and put their lives on hold when the call comes to help.
And a moment of silence for those who don't come home.

depends on the cop. Some are good giys, some are jerks who t hink a badge gives them superpowers. How do I know? I've been a police reporter for 10 years and once dispatched in a police department.
Cops are humans, too. Good, bad - depends.

If you're speaking about the police, they are just like everyone else. There are some very good ones and some very bad ones. That's why Americans wrote a constitution that limits their power.

Piggy, po-po. 1st off, they are not in disguise, secondly they are pissed off people who are still angry that they didnt decide to go to college & further their education. I think that they get power trips & are still pissed that they have a crappy dangerous job with low pay.
