first of all wake up at the same time everyday, even the weekends. this will start your body on a schedule. you will be tired around the same time each night and you will sleep better at night.
don't eat after about 6:00 p.m.. your body has to work to digest the food which means it is using energy and it can keep you awake as it is working through.
go for a walk after dinner to help the process.
stop all caffiene consumption before 3 or 4 pm. the effects of caffiene last 4 - 6 hours. and since most are accompanied by sugar, you have "high " and when it is over you are left feeling drained but restless from the caffiene.
try reading when you go to bed. it helps you fall asleep faster.
also, the colder a room is the better you will sleep, that was proven in a sleep study.
make your room dark and turn on a fan for noise.
if all else fails you can try tylenol simply sleep. only take it for one or two nights.the only bad thing is that you can start relying on these and then you won't be able to sleep again.

I usually let the face of everyone and everything that I can remember seeing in the last 24 hours float into my memory. I put a lei around their neck, or tree trunk if if applies, in a gesture of gratitude...you'll be off to dreamland in no time...namaste
