No, it's just a misrepresentation you get through the TV and radio. Granted, it's a hib for hip-hop music and it's becoming bigger by the day, but in terms of "gangsta", then no. It's a shame that people who spend all their days living amongst people who are just like they are build their ideas about others based on what TV shows you. TV is entertaining because it shows the fringe of everything that people don't normally see or do. Thus, when you see a rapper talking about Decatur, you assume everyone in Decatur drives hydraulic-lifting cars with giant rims and spinners. Actually, a lot Decatur is quite the opposite, a lot of baby-boomers wearing Birkenstocks and sipping lattes.
The "gangsta" element of Atlanta is much smaller than people think. By the by, I don't like ATL. Not because of rap, I just don't think the name of the city is so long that we can't say it. Atlanta just sounds nicer than "ATL".

becoming???? there are parts that are a little "gangsta" and there are parts that aren't. Its always been that way and it always will. so, no... I dont think its "becoming" that way. It just seems like that with all of the " Lil Jon's and Yung Joc's coming out of ATL.
P.S.... its not just rappers that refer to Atlanta as ATL. Damn... its the airport code. Many people refer to Atlanta as ATL.

Just like Karasi said...there are parts of the city that are bad,and parts that are very good. Every major city is that way. Me personally, I moved from NY to ATL and I love it here..The people are nice (mostly) and there is a ton of stuff to do and see. Don't form your opinion from what you see on BET.

Yeah. Downtown has it's fair share of no good con artists, punks, hoods, and players looking to rip you off! Steer clear of them and there is a lot of fun to be had. I'm an Atlantan and I know!

there is no question about it. regarded as the "ATL" by many rappers it is becoming that indeed thanks to the rappers and the crime rate.
