If you were in a serious situation and your civil liberties were being abused or ignored who would you call? What if you had no money for an attorney? Yes, the ACLU can be over the top sometimes but they are "Purists" about the law. They have that right.

I am a card carrying member. The ACLU is fighting against the erosion of rights that is currently on the political agenda under the guise of homeland security, anti-terrorism and the Bush Administration. I agree with the work and purpose of the ACLU; I am nt sure what the public thinks, but I can speak for myself.....
for now....

They're function is fight for the protection of Americans rights as set out in the bill of rights. As such, they probably are a useful organization. I understand that some people, specifically Conservatives dislike the organization mainly because it defends the bill of rights. From reading some of the responses so far and having watched Fox news, I get the impression, conservatives don't believe in the bill of rights. If that is the case, can see why they would hate it. I am a firm believer in democracy and freedom especially when it comes to people who disagree with me. I am passionate about my views and respect and understand those who would have differing viewpoints. That is why, based on what I know of the ACLU, I would say it serves its function.

I think they act like a bunch of scared little kids. Now, they are suing to have a picture of Jesus removed from a school in Harrison County, West Virginia. Are they really scared of a "picture" of Jesus? I sure do wish I could have as fulfilling a life as they do. Boy, how I wish I could take up the crusade of removing references to Jesus or Christianity from the public sector. What an important cause. I wonder what they would say if I asked them to file a lawsuit on my behalf to have pictures of ancient Greek God's removed from the public view? I also wonder what their view would be if a child wanted to wear a shirt with a pentagram on it or a reference to Satan? I wonder if they would be as interested in other student's rights not to be subjected to religious persuasion. I have nothing for the Anti Christian Liberties Union.

I don't like them but i appreciate what they do. When they were fighting for the rights of the Father of the Gonzalez boy from Cuba, I was actually on their side. The only time I think.

Sometimes they do alot of good-BUT- alot of times the things they go after is ridiculous!!! ex. take the Philly Steaks-where you have to order in English.I don't blame them.If you come to our country-speak English.Just like the way we have to speak another language in another country. You can speak your language at home and at family gatherings. Now look what you did!!!! You got me upset!!!!! Sorry I can go on and on. My opinion? Find a good cause and make a better name for yourselves.
