I have had very bad experiences with SSRI's especially Effexor XL. That made me very suicidal, if my friends had not rallied round and got me admitted to the local psychiatric ward I would not be here now. The staff in this ward did not give a f**k about anything other than an easy life, there was no treatment whatsoever, but that is what I have come to expect from the so-called "caring" professions. Rot in hell the lot of you!

Yes some people experience bad side effect read the box...unfortunately some more than others. You may need to change ur medicatication a couple of times.
Yet it is proven. Medication coupled with therapy, excercise, diet and keeping life simple WILL help you to recover from a depressive episode.
Well it has worked for me adn lots more i know or have heard of. So good luck

Yes, i was put on Prozac and the effect it had on me were horrible.
I had VERY violent nightmares, i used to wake up with bruises because i used to hit out in my sleep.
Also i got addicted to it so when i was taken off of it i withdrew, which is HORRID.
All i can say is that they didn't work for me, but that is me.
If you have been told to take them, try them and see if they help you, i know people who have used them and they have done wonders.
Always keep an open line of communication with a Dr or Nurses and any problems that arises can be address, that's what i found anyway!

Effexor XL, trying to come off this medication made me have seizuires for 36hrs. I have just spent 5 days in hospital because of this drug!
My symptoms presented as a stroke with paralysis down the left side of my body, my speach was severely affected! If you are on this medication and are trying to come off it please take my advice, do not attempt to stop this medication too quickly, you really do need to take proper advice, my G.P. did not know the side effects!
Change the medication firstly to the ordinary version, then very slowly wean yourself off it, it may take several months, you will experience withdrawel symptoms on the change-over, I am in the process of doing this, not a very nice thing to be doing, but in my mind a necessary one.
Take care all, and please be aware of anyone who says you can stop this medication without side effects, especially if you have been taking effexor xl for more than a few months x

Most psychotropic medicines have bad side affects but they do help you with the mental illness.
To all people who take medicine for metal reasons, be aware that side affects happen before the medicine starts to treat the mental illness. (It takes about 3 week to start treating the mental illness but the side affects happen within days of taking)
