southwest airlines is best. they let you board early, pick any seat, (sit up front) and have the best service of any us domestic hands down. all other domestic airlines have assigned seats and it is more difficult if you have a child. southwest also has limited snacks and drinks for kids.

A recommendation for travelling with a baby... please purchase a seat for your young one, even if he is under 2. Most airlines will let the child fly free under 2 if he stays in an adult's lap. By purchasing a seat (usually at a discount for an infant) you can bring Baby in his car-seat, then secure the car-seat to the airplane's seat and strap Baby in. He gets a much more comfortable ride--- and a safer one. A baby travelling in arms would have little chance of surviving a crash. And while it's very unlikely that you'll be in a crash, you have a good chance of hitting turbulence or rough air. Sometimes this can be really, really rough--- I've seen (several times!) folks who were not wearing their seatbelts actually come out of their seats during some of the rough stuff, and hit their heads either on the ceiling/compartment or on the seat in front of them. I've also seen a baby actually bounce out of his mother's arms during the bouncy stuff and end up hitting the floor very hard. Don't take a chance! It's not worth putting your baby at such risk just to save some money. You'd never consider driving your baby around in the car without a car-seat; why do it with a 500 MPH plane?

I've only taken my baby on Continental, when he was 8 months old. But the flight attendants were VERY nice to him, and played with him, and even gave him some of those plastic wings. I recommend them. :)
