We just brought our 6 month old Lab mix puppy home last night, and he seems a little lethargic, and depressed. He ate a little when we brought him home last night, around 7p, and a little this morning and afternoon, and he hasn't had a bowel movement yet. He has gone pee outside a few times. He seems very clingy to me, follows me around everywhere. Is this normal? I'm guessing he's probably a little skittish because I do have a very rambunctous 5 yr old son. Also I know he's adjusting to his environment. He's just so calm and sweet.

The puppy is probably a bit overwhelmed and uncomfortable in the new surroundings and situation. You are the person he is most comfortable with, and he feels secure around you. If he does not adjust well after a few days and eat, contact a vet.

Are you feeding the same brand and type of food where he came from? New pets sometimes take a while to adjust to new food and water.

Your 5 year old and the puppy will learn how to live together soon.

Good luck!

Yes, a week or two should be around the time she is still getting used to this new world she is in. New people, new noises, new smells are all a bit overwhelming for a pup. And if you got her from a litter she is probably wondering where her family is. Now is the time to show tons of TLC, but don't overwhelm her. Buy her new toys (squeaky ones!!), yummy puppy-safe treats, and gives kisses and praise. Let her learn to love and respect you as her new pack leader. Develop trust in her and she will know she is in a safe place. And if you don't mind it, maybe let her sleep in your bed if she is not too small. And during times when she will be home alone, leave a dirty shirt that has your scent on it around her hiding areas so she knows you will come back.

Hello, sounds like your puppy is lonesome. Some dogs have a hard time adjusting to a new home, and just need extra attention, and to not be left alone for a while. Hope this helps, Jane Vanderbush ps please don't give up on your puppy. :) Also, if he doesn't have a bm soon, he needs to see a Vet. , he may have swallowed something, as puppies are good for that. I have a friend that her doxie swallowed a knee hi stocking, and it had caused a blockage in his intestine.

He needs to adjust to his new family. If you got him from his mother, he's just lost her and his siblings. We wouldn't be very happy if we were taken away from the only people who we loved and loved us and so he has a right to be depressed. Just give him lots of love and attention and he'll be ok. Try playing with him and give him something else to think about. Good Luck.

I also have a lab that follows me around everywhere. It may seem unusual, but it's not. Animals know right away who cares for them and who to avoid. If you care for your pets, they will follow you! Don't worry. If things don't improve over the next week or so, talk to a vet.

Animals are like human beings. It takes time for us to adjust. We have in our mind that we will be ok or that the other person is pretty cool however we never let our guards down.
