I'm Mormon, a convert of ten years. I love it. But yes, I know of many people who hate Mormons. My family among them. Here in the UK I encounter Mormon hating people every day. Generally they are polite, but I have been verbally abused, and several "friends" are refusing to come to my wedding because it is being held in the LDS chapel. (We're being sealed the same evening in the London Temple; Temple marriages are not legally recognised in the UK.)
Before I was baptised I was an evangelical Christian and an active anti-Mormon. I hated Mormons then because I thought their beliefs warped "true Christian doctrine" and prevented people really coming to Christ, that the church was only about money and it brainwashed people.
Five years of in-depth study (mostly of anti-Mormon stuff) began to reveal holes in my arguments and finally I read the Book of Mormon and discovered it to be true. You know what they say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I have truly come to know my saviour through this church and have had so many wonderful blessings. But it really saddens me to read answers like those above and realise that so many people still believe all these ridiculous lies about the church. (We are not polytheistic and do not practice polygamy!)
I think it really boils down to the fact that they are jealous of our way of life and our dedication (which comes through the spirit) and scared of the unknown, especially when it challenges beliefs they cling to - like the trinity - which are so tenuous.

I'm not Mormon and I think that a lot of Mormon's are "good people." I've even spent some quality time in Salt Lake City around the Temple Square. After studying Mormon doctrine, I also think you believe in false teachings, but I don't hate you. Don't you think your question was a little too general in saying "people hate mormons?"

I don't know why people hate Mormons. All the Mormons I have ever known are really nice people. And had one wife.
For some reason, where I grew up, people thought Mormons and Menonites were the same people. Maybe that had something to do with it? (Not to say they hated the Menonites, I just had to keep correcting my classmates. The Menonites were the ones on the bike, not the Mormons.)
I must agree, I think many feminists - and not just the hardlined ones - dislike the multiple wife part. But they need to understand the official Mormon church has outlawed polygamy.

I don't know why, but I suppose I could guess.
1. It is a relatively new religion.
2. Joseph Smith's story is pretty far-fetched, even compared to the christian view.
3. Mormons are too darn nice.
Those are my leading theories, but in the end it is probably a bit of jealousy. Mormons are known for their family values, and that's something that's really missing around the world these days.

Many spiritual and biblical principles are being taught in the Mormon church and work to change the quality of people’s lives (but not on a salvation level).
I have yet to know of a Mormon who knows where they stand with God, or what will happen to them when they have their ultimate encounter with God, because they do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
This is why I left the Mormon church 26 years ago.
There is no salvation in the Mormon church.
They believe in the LAW, and they believe they have to keep ALL the commandments that their god has given them ALL the time .
It is impossible to be perfect on Mormon standards, but that is what the religion requires if you want the Mormon eternal life of exaltation/heaven and becoming a god or goddess with endless amounts of polygamous sex, or having your "family forever" like they talk so much about.
Mormons are waiting for judgement day at the Great White Throne to find out if they are forgiven and they believe God will be just in his judgements.
Revelation 20:11-15 tells about the the books being opened and the dead being judged according to what they had done, at the Great White Throne.
What Mormons don't understand is that this ultimate judgement of the Great White Throne is for UNBELIVERS only.
Who are these "dead, great and small'?
They are the DEAD now in trespasses and sins because of their rejection of Jesus Christ, and they will be resurrected in order to appear at this judgement.
Those who have lived under the hearing of the LAW will be judged by it. THE MORMONS, for example, live according to LAW. They are rather looking forward to being judged according to their works with all the other unbelievers.
They will be judged by the book of the law, by the Lamb's book of Life, and the deeds done in the flesh taken from the books of human works.
"if anyone's name was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."
Heaven or Hell - there are no 3 degrees of glory or kingdoms that Mormons fantatise about and there is a real hell.
There are only two kinds of people - the believing or unbelieving, the saved or unsaved, the condemned or not condemned, the righteous or unrighteous, the just or unjust, the wise or unwise, a persons name is written or it is not written in the Book of Life - and it's possible to have one's name blotted out of the Book of Life.
Revelation 20:12 "the dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books."
Ecclesiates 12:14 "For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil."
This is the Mormon gospel - where is the good news in Mormonism?
The foundation of true Christianity is knowing you have been forgiven.
Unless people accept the MERCY of God in the person of His Son, there is no way they can be found righteous,
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
A believer is one to whom is imputed the righteousness of Christ - something Mormons do not have, nor do they believe in this salvation which is the Christian Gospel.
Galatians 1:8
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Mormons should quit calling themselves Christians.
They are not a Christian denomination, nor are they the only true Christians (which is what they really believe.)

I'm LDS too, though to be honest, I don't really know anybody who hates Mormons. The only people I've encountered who truly seem to hate Mormons are some of the more intolerant folks online.
Mostly it's just ignorance and people parroting what their ministers or their friends told them.
I just hope they don't find out about our horns...

I'm not a Mormon, but I certainly don't hate them. I think many people fear what they do not understand and let's face it, many of us don't understand the Mormon religion. Personally I prefer to like or dis-like people based on their personality and deeds, not a pre-set label. Have a great day and enjoy being who you are!

We can truthfully say that we hate mormons because so many of them are morons, at least in matters of religion. By the way, have they figured out where those famous gold tablets have gotten to yet? Are they still lost?

mormons are like a wild card religion. they're initial beginnings are extremely wierd and that whole having the Mormon church taking 10% of your pay thing sounds pretty bogus. Also, why is the Mormon church worth over 25 BILLION dollars? what do they need that much for anyways?

I am Mormon. Most of the time, I think people don't hate us, they just don't agree about anything to do with Joseph Smith. There is the most wonderful movie about him at the Joseph Smith Buildling in SLC, it was amazing!!! It made me want to meet him and give him a big hug for what he did for us.

Not everybody hates Mormons some people just don't like them because they are polytheistic (believe in many gods) and they believe that they will become a god when they die and the monotheistic believers (believe in one god) don't like the idea of many gods and they don't think that anyone came become a god no matter how good they are in life. Also several people don't like the idea of more than one wife.
