It's going to be tough to convince him...you might have to let him go down this path so he can learn from his mistakes

It seems that everyone has already given you great advice. But I did the same thing. I was 19, going to college, started dating a guy that had no ambition and I was tired of living at home. So I dropped out of school, got married, and 3 kids later realized I was an IDIOT. But my parents didn't interfere or say much, they were letting me make my own decision. So I ended up realizing I made a really big mistake and am passing that message on to my kids. I am now back in school, set to graduate in December. But the longer you wait the harder it is to go back, and while going to school you have to work, you have to keep up your own house and pay bills. I wish I would have stayed at home, and finished, because I wouldn't be in so much debt right now because of other bad choices, and I wouldn't feel as though I am never home. Here is something I had to do shortly after going back to school. I was working 40 hours a week plus taking a full load of classes. So I would start class at 7:30 in the morning, go till 12:30, go back home and have to be at work at 2 and not get back home till 10. I did that M-F, so during that 8 weeks of time I hardly ever seen my family. So your son is better off doing it now than later. Feel free to share the horror stories.

He's gonna need to understand that the choices he makes in life while he's young could affect his whole future. Now if he doesn't want to finish college, then make him pay for everything.....including his college if he took out student loans. He should have to buy his own gas in a vehicle, his own insurance, start from there and work your way up. This has worked on my son. I've also told him that he can live home as long as he gets his degree, but if he quits college, then he's got to get a job and move out. Best of luck to you and your son.

Well.....this is what my parents would do:
Remind him that you've worked hard to send him to school and he should show some thanks and appreciation by working hard at school. Also tell him that going to college is not a waste of time but it's a way to get a better job and better future. He's earned his place in college so why not go all the way?

The rule in my husband's house was: No one pays rent as long as they are in school. After that, rent was $500 plus utilities - non neogotiable.

Alternatively, kick him out.

I showed my daughter an old beat up trailer I used to live in, and told her if she didn't finish school, this would be her future.
