I'm Catholic, and... it sounds fake. Hold on, let me look it up. -__-

edit: Wow, it's real! I've never heard of it before, but here's a wikipedia page on it. Very interesting -- thanks for asking about it!
" Charismatic Catholicism, also known as Catholic Charismatic Renewal is a movement within the Catholic Church which adopts certain practices and beliefs more commonly associated with the Pentecostal movement within Protestantism. Worship services are characterized by a high energy Mass, as well as prayer meetings featuring prophecy and sometimes glossolalia, or "speaking in tongues." Some supporters within this movement see it as based on the belief that certain charisms (a Greek word for gifts), such as the abilities to speak in tongues and to heal (which all Christians believe existed somehow in the early Church as described in the Bible) should still be practiced today. Charismatic Christians (of which I am one) emphasize the use of spiritual gifts given to each believer at the time he or she is Born Again. The really far-out ones are referred to as "Holy Rollers." I'd say I'm a middle of the road Charismatic -- I know what my gifts are and use them nearly every day; others, though, go overboard and insist you're not really Born Again unless you can "speak in tongues." I think that's a bunch of hooie.
I have heard there are several Catholic churches that permit the use of spritual gifts. This sounds odd to me. As a former Catholic, I see the clergy as an artificial, ungodly curtain between the people (who are Priests, with Jesus being our High Priest) and God. As far as I know, most Charismatics are Protestant.

Charismatics believe in being taken and shaken by the Spirit of God. They believe that an integral part of worship is to be so open to the Lord that He can do this.
Charismatic Catholics are those who accept this and integrate such services into the whole of their religious lives. They usually attend Mass daily. They pray frequently. They often go on retreat. They just have this desire for an extra bit of closeness that they want to feel with God and this is how they go about seeking it.
Charism = gift. In this case, the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Charismatics = people who seek and believe they have received these gifts in a public forum.

I think a charismatic church is one where they do things out of the ordinary. For example, maybe they talk in tongues, or do some kind of faith healing. I gues some dancing and arms waving in the air praising Jesus.

Charismatic refers to a church that believes in gifts of the spirit (ie. speaking in tounges, spiritual healing). It is often used to describe Pentecostal / Assemblies of God churches.

"Charismatic" is a code word for rolling around on the floor speaking gibberish.
