The application of a zinc coating is galvanizing. Process can be either cold or hot. The zinc acts as a sacrificial anode to prevent rusting (insert a lot of technical information about electrical charges and exchange of electrons during the corrosion process).

they hook a wire to the metal so that it has a positive charge then they attach the negative wire to lumps of zinc and put both in a bath of acid, as the current flows threw the acid, particles of metal are dissolved and flow over to the positiv metal creating a thin layer of zinc. The advantages of this is that the steel does not rust as fast. their are many different types of eletroplating each with a different quallity that makes it desirable as a piece in a specific enviroment
