He has bald patches by his eye, and by his whiskers. Short of digging with his nose, which he doesn't do, what would cause this???

I can't tell you what caused it, but I know for a fact calm coat will fix it. You can find it @ any high quality pet store, or on line. If not let me know I'll send samples to you.

Everyone here kind of has the idea. . .it is definitely a skin condition, there are about one million (literally) different skin problems that can affect them. . . ranging from a little dry skin to mange. . . mange is PERFECT circles of missing hair. . .and they are microscopic bugs. . . your vet (if he/she suspected mange) would do a "skin scrape" and view it on a slide under a microscope. . . it could also be fleas. . .one of the most common skin ailments in canines. . . EVEN if you NEVER saw a flea, or are convinced the dog doesn't have fleas. . . it could be fleas - believe me!!! The best thing to do is have a vet check his skin.
Also - - Age can be a factor. . . .How old is he???

Are you sure your dog doesn't root around with it's nose in a crate? I have seen MANY dogs in a plastic or wire crate that use their nose to move around a blanket or pad and scuff up the top of their nose.

It could be an on-set of mange, or it could be loss of fur due to allergies. Consult a vet to help determine possible reasons.

If the patches are circles then it is possibly ring worm, you could try an antifungal cream. If they are not circles, it could be mange which only your vet can treat.

he might have a skin condition.It could some kind of fungus such as ringworm.(it's not really a worm)Just got to the vet
