Could be they're searching for something to believe in or it could be just to start trouble because they're bored and lonely and need attention wherever they can get it :)

Because to be an atheist is SOMETHING. Even if it is not a religion, it is in fact a belief. And many of the questions asked in Religion and Spirituality are about beliefs, and people ask for the opinions of others. Atheists have just as many opinions/beliefs about things as everyone else, and they feel they have a right to share those opinions/beliefs with everyone (SicmadeGemini's answer addresses this correctly).
Also, many of the questions under this category are often about atheists (like this question) or they are specifically asking a question directed to athiests. So when they see the questions pop up on their page, they find them interesting so they answer them.
Also realize that they aren't necessarily going into this section to seek out questions, they may just be clicking on whatever they see come up on the "Answer" page. I personally never choose specific topics, I just pick most recent questions that I find interesting, and I rarely even read what category they have come from.

This is a section to ask/discuss religion - you don't have to be religious to be interested in religion.

I'm an atheist who majored in religious studies - I don't believe in it, but I do find it interesting. Atheism is still a way of viewing the world; by the way, not all religions believe in a God - get off of your religious high-horse.

"Religion" is not a belief in God. The definition of "Religion" is A System Of Worship. Witches Worship Nature. Indians Worship Many Gods.

To educate you, or entertaing our self may be.
Or may be GOD send us to tempt your faith.
Or may be make sure you guys do belive in GOD and we can benefit from that , sale a bible?
You name it, every one has different agenda, every one things we know the truth but hey for what ever way it goes if you are true believer it should not matter.
Therefore GOD and Christianity have some questions.

The place would get kind of boring if everyone agreed. Don't you think.

Just because I don't believe in God doesn't mean I can't discuss religion.

It depends. If they come to answer questions, or research something, then I see no problem with that. But, if they come through to trash and bash religion and it's believers, well then I suspect it's the same reason bible thumping hypocrites go into the gay/lesbian/bi/transgender section to trash and bash on homosexuality.

You don't need to follow the catholic god to be in the religious category. I don't believe in the christian god and i'm here. don't you ppl think there's other religions other than christianity that people are interested or commited to?

Everyone has the right to their own opinion and for people to respect that opinion even if they don't agree with it. I think that blind hatred of each other is ridiculous but I also think everyone would beneift from actually listening to each other and taking into consideration what the other side has to say.

To answer stupid questions like this. Why do Christians always talk about Atheist's when we clearly dont want to believe in your mumbo jumbo

b'cause they are not atheists, they r souls just not sure and still searching, reacting, expressing inner nature. Throwing up what they have inside, as soon as they throw up and clean up totally with no more addition, they will allow their belief to rise, it is a matter of time. Love them.
