Will I have to have an operation on my back to eliminate this pain?
The discs in my back are pressing on the nerves that run down my legs causing numbness.

There is another solution without operation: Go for a manual one-time treatment called Atlasprofilax. The effect is, that the pressure on the discs is distributed much better - so the herniated discs may recover completely.

Just - the treatment is available in California and Europe only, costing approx. 220 dollars. It's really worth travelling far.

You should check this Sciatica Natural Treatment

Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica. Try a reputable chiropractor ASAP!

It depends on how bad your discs are.....I have what is called Degenerative Disc Disease....where the discs in my back are slowly going away. I had a level one fusion done almost 2 years ago, and have been pretty much pain free ever since. The key is to go to a really good ortho doc and make sure it is one that specializes in backs. I also saw a neurosurgeon, but he did not want to treat me aggressively. The best advice I can give you is make sure you aren't way overweight (that will be the first thing any doc will tell you to do), strengthen your core muscles (lots of crunches ect.), and make sure you exercise. You can try physical therapy to slip discs back into place or go the cortisone shot route.....but don't be afraid to tell the docs how much pain you are in and be persistant about it....the squeaky wheel gets the grease if you know what I mean....Good Luck!

had it when i was preg with #2. sleep on your left side only, if you can, and also lay on your back with your butt up against a chair, your thighs going up the chair, and your knees & calves resting on the seat of the chair. do that for several minutes a day, it honestly helps. also avoid lifting your legs in any way that would put your ankle higher than the bottom of your knee, as it really irritates the nerve.

it will probably go away eventually. if it doesn't, oughta see a chiropractor before a surgeon. good luck, i feel for you, it's miserable!!!!

It sounds like you are starting to have practice contractions called Braxton Hicks. Back pain and cramps and all are part of being pregnant. However, be sure to let your doctor know what all is going on at your next appointment.
