My family and I are going camping. There will be my husband and I along with three children. We will be tent camping and need some ideas for some easy, yet satisfying snacks. Snacks can be kept in our cooler or dry. We prefer snacks that take little to no preparation. Thanks!!

That's great you are going camping, we camp every weekend. I usually take things like those p'nut butter sandwhich crackers, smores are great but remember the chocolate melts and so do the marshmallows into one icky mess. Trail mix is good, the kind you make yourself with m&m's, marshmallows, raisins, etc. (keep in cool place). Go-gurt, poptarts, apples, oranges, watermelon and cantelope already cubed. Cheez-it's too.
Do forget to pick up some glow sticks (necklaces) for the kids at night, they love them.

Without a doubt, SMORES! Other than that, trail mix, dried fruit, oatmeal cookies, healthy snacks that kids can enjoy and are handy without special packaging or storage. We take these on the trail when were driving cattle, and they are a great pick me up that doesn't take up much room and is good to go without having to stop and dismount. Even the horses enjoy the oatmeal cookies, but don't let our cook hear that!

1. Wrap a hamburger patty, a sliced potato and some onion in several layers of aluminum foil. Make an individual packet for each person. Put all packets in a ziplock and freeze. Use in cooler to keep beer cold. When thawed lay packets in hot ashes/coals for about 30 minutes. Turn often. 2. Do the same as above, but use a boneless chicken breast, carrot slivers, mushrooms and potato. Season with a fresh sage leaf. 3. Cook and crumble breakfast sausage with onion, mushroom, peppers (whatever else you want). Cool. Put into freezer bag, break in some eggs. Freeze. Use as ice. Boil a large pan of water over the campfire. Put individual packets into the water until eggs are cooked. Serve with feta cheese and tortillas. 4. Preslice some good smoked sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, garlic and onions. Throw in a bit of butter. Freeze. Stirfry over campfire or put in foil packets. 5. Take premade biscuits or bread dough. Roll them into snakes and wrap around a stick. Cook them over hot coals. Serve with jelly, honey and butter. 6. Place apples or pears directly into hot ashes/coals. Eat carefully, they will be hot... and juicy and delicious. Good to do with an onion too.

Jiffy-pop, graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate bars, peanuts, chips, salsa, peanut butter.

For the more health conscious:
cut up carrot sticks, cut up celery sticks (this is where you put the peanut butter in and add raisins for ants on a log), apples, bananas

It's fun to pop popcorn over the fire and melt marshmallows then stick it between graham cracker squares with a hershey bar inside. Make sure you have lots of bottled water and fruit juice for those thirsty, exploring kids.

we make a snack and it used to be called gorp but you can call it anything....

place one cup each of these into one large baggie or several small for each to carry, make sure they are the freezer bag types, they last longer:

granola bites
mixed nuts or peanuts
dried fruit - bananas, peaches whatever you like i hate raisins but other love them
you can add chocolate chips or peanut butter chips if you can keep it cool other wise it it melts and gets all over everything

also this make alot so you can do 1/2 cups or 1/4 cups if you like. also koa the campground place has a website that has a lot of campsite recipes on it...sorry you'll have to do a websearch for its site...have fun with your family

Snikers candy bar. I am sure it is not the healthiest, but nothing is better than a candy bar and cold cola when you are camping. Make sure and put them in the cooler. They will be hard and chewy. Try it!!!

Trail mix and beef jerky are both excellent snacks that you can buy ready made at the store.

Our family staples for camping: Smore's, metts with cheese in the middle (cheesy metts), chips, and beer. That about does it for us.
