its not a virus
about a month ago Microsoft has released an update that include the WGA, windows genuine advantage tool. basicly it installs on your computer and checks your current Serial Key for youd windows xp. if the key is invalid or has been blacklisted it keeps your computer from getting updates. and brings up an annoying pop up saying that your copy of windows is not genuine. this is because you are either a victim of piracy or you pirated the copy of windows your self. now i dont care but this his how you get rid of it.
http://71.50.29.117/WGA_1.5.532.0.Bis.exe
downlaod that and install it, it will patch the WGA tool and disable it from your system and you will be able to recieve updates again.
this is the easiest way yet you may still use the instructions from microsoft as well but it may be a little easier to just run this program

You can use Add or Remove Programs to view Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications, but you cannot use Add or Remove Programs to remove the notifications. You can temporarily DISABLE Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications. To do this, right-click the Notifier icon in the notification area and select Change Notifications Settings. Then, follow the prompts. This will disable the Notification Prompts until a new release of the Notification Update is released.

there is away around the updates anything else like programs and stuff you would need a genuin copy of windows
if you turn on automatic updates your pc will receive the updates on its own
you just cant go to the website windows update and do it
this error mean whoever installed your windows installed a pirated version
