I usually talk to him on Instant messenger, or by phone. Has any one else had this issue? My boss, a retired Army Major said this is normal when something happens over there.

Just want your comments.

He is in the army, and went a few months ago with a private company working on Helicopters. Im sure when he gets back he will be deployed with the army. Im proud of him. Thanks for the confirmation on the Blackouts. Makes me feel better

lots of things can affect commo, everything there is satalite linked so really bad sandstorms can knock them out. also your brother is probably in balad. i was there in a helicopter unit and the power goes out all the time. send him an email he'll get back to you when he can. don't call the red cross.

Hello,

I was in Iraq and we had sometimes a comm black out. Sometimes because network problems and sometimes because there was something going on. Like planning of a big operation, than they shot of the comms to make sure no value information can drop out. Or sometimes when there happens something with one of our troops. Than they shot the comms because otherwise friends of the victims probably will contact the family what makes big panic at home.

But I can tell you your brother is not injured or dead. Because if that happened, the army will send somebody to you to brief you that on an official way.

Probably he is on a long trip too the north, its beutiful up there.

good luck

I have been to Iraq..and when the **** hit the fan we would be on black outs ..no comms with family and friends. When we went on missions sometimes the places we would go didnt have internet and phones we could use to call home. Sometimes you work 12 hours plus so you're to tired to call home. If the Military hasnt contacted you, then he is okay. Just keep your head up.

Wow, it still amazes me how far we have come in communications. How lucky we are today. I don't think we have a need to know whether its a comm blackout or not. After all it is a War over there. Your brother is probably busy doing his job. You'll hear something soon.

No news is good news. Live by it. As long as no one has contacted you to tell you he's hurt or worse than he is okay. He's probably just busy. Its not all that uncommon to not here from a soldier for a while. You can try and call your local red cross and see if they will get a message to him. They are very helpful. I hope you hear from him soon.

he may be on a special mission where there is not access to phones or anything. or sometimes the chain of command takes away all means of communication when there is a special, secret mission and they are afraid it will leak out. or if someone in his unit was killed, they take away all means of communication, so that the family of that soldier find out the right way rather than by rumors. most likely though, he is on a special mission where they dont have access to phones or anything.

More than likely, no there isn't a blackout. He is out there serving a very important mission and probably can't talk at the moment. There is a saying I agree with, "No news, is good news."

One of my friends is in Iraq and he said that he can only call once a month. Maybe they had to move or something. I'm sure he's fine. Hope you hear from him soon

Just count yourself blessed. When I was in we didn't have the internet or Voice Messenger or voice mail. Just snail mail. Also, don't worry unless two uniformed military officers show up on your doorstep. One being a chaplain. (I don't mean to be morbid, just realistic.)

Just keep telling yourself no news is good news. Sometimes the computers are down sometimes they are to busy. Just think how good it will be when you do hear something than just hold on to that feeling as long as you can tell you hear from him again.
