MD Anderson in Houston has a program for people who cant pay but if she has insurance its going to be tough....I'd find out why the insurance keeps denying treatment and go from there. it might be that MDA isn't a contracted hospital or she's reached her capitation for treatment. check with mda's patient advocate and see what the hospitals policy on indigent or cash patients or see if an oncology group attached to the cancer center can treat her in office at reduced rates. As a nurse i hate the way insurance company's bail on patients when their at their lowest. good luck to your friend.

According to their website:

"We work with all patients to help them receive full benefit from their insurance. To do so, we must have complete information about your insurance coverage. Each insurer has specific requirements that must be met prior to consultation and treatment. Patients are responsible for meeting these requirements, especially if you are in a managed care plan. The New Patient Referral Office can answer specific questions about insurance verification and prepayment requirements. You can reach them at 1-800-392-1611. If your health plan will not pay for treatment, we suggest that you ask your insurance company if it will cover a consultation at M. D. Anderson. Once you have been evaluated by M. D. Anderson physicians you can work out with your insurance company exactly what your treatment will be and where you will be treated."

It sounds like the problem may be your friend's insurance policy and not the hospital. There isn't much you can do about that, but there should be some sort of appeal process through the insurance.

Please contact M.D. Anderson. If they do not, I'm sure they can guide you for help. Houston has many programs available.
