To some it may seem silly to sterilize a needle for the condemned but the fact is we are a civilized society and we should not deviate from being civilized. Does anyone want to give the government the right to decide when it should act in a civilized manner and when not to? I certainly don't. If you do then anyone of us may be the next victim.

because in this day in age, it's hard to find a needle that isn't sterilized for injections because they come in sterilized one use packaging, unless they reuse one, which isn't likely because after a needle is used it gets put into a sharps container to prevent anyone from getting stuck on a dirty needle.

so they don't get infected. The question you want to ask is why do they care about infection, when they are just going to die anyway? The answer is a combination of no cruel or unusual punishment, that the person has to die the way intended, not from infection, that the person at the last minute may receive a stay of execution. But, what I want to know is 'do they really?' Because I'd think they would use disposable ones. If you could provide a source, I'd appreciate it!

Needles come pre-sterilized by the manufacturer because they don't know that their needle is going to be used to kill someone. I'm sure they'd send a few dirty ones just for the occasion.
