No this is not true. The reason people think this is beause their hair seems longer when they take it out of braids. This is because the month or two that it has been in braids you haven't combed it or brush it so you still have dead hair in it. When you wash your hair and straighten it and get i back to normal you will notice that it grew the same amount it would have normally been

no....it may seem that way when you take the braids out, but hair usually grows about a half an inch a month.

there are two side to that...it can, but TOO long in the hair and those braids can pull your hair right outta your scalp. Consult a professional and see what is right for your hair type.

thats what my grandmama said. basically i doesnt break that much that way and can grow. plus i think if its pulled so it gets stronger.
