each one can be different, but if there is a quick launch button on the task bar, then right click on it and choose shut down.
You can also use ctrl+alt+delete and choose end process.
You may also want to go to PC World and get ShellExView this can allow you to stop the program loading all together...

Usually this type of software has an icon in system tray (talking about Windows here). You can right click on that icon and you will have an option to disable it. Alternatively you can go in the services applet, identify the AV service and stop it.

If u want to temporarily turn it off, rite click on the antivirus software icon in the system tray (bottom, right hand side).
If u want to remove it completely from ur system u can uninstall it.
But if u want it in ur system and just dont want it to load at startup, go to start menu and follow the followin steps,
Click Run
Type "msconfig" and press enter
Click on startup tab (probably last tab)
Uncheck ur antivirus software (u have to be sure of wat it is, or else u may hav to go one by one, by restartin the computer each time until ur antivirus software stops loadin.. remember to check back the ones which were not correct) and press OK..

That varies from package to package and company to company. Most programs have a dialog box that will let you choose options for the software (look in the Start Menu).
Other than that, I think that you have to uninstall it. But only do that if you have the means to reinstall it; you don't want a computer that can't handle viruses.

depending on what software for anti-virus you use, you first have to load up the program and select to turn off anti-virus or you can right click the icon on the toolbar to turn off anti-vrus

It depends on wich anti-virus you are using but usually it can be found in a console that you can disable it or you might just want to uninstall it from control panel then add/remove programs

i dont know why you would want to but if you have an icon in your tray right click on it and disable if not find the program open it and there should be an option to disable
or you can uninstall from add and remove programs in control panel
i dont recomend either option unless youre getting another antivirus

it depends on the AntiVirus software that you use but most of them have a smal icon on the right side of the taskbar(tray) wich if you right click on you`ll be able to disable the antivirus
