This is a real issue to me at the moment. My ten year old, and all her friends, have been making their own websites, (or 'webbies'), as they call them. They all use this new 'language'. I asked my daughter to try not to - she's not the best speller to start with. Anyway, she's been watching me on Answers, and last night she said she was going to design her own Answers page on her webby. I've just looked at it. I quote:
"Evr sin dat yahoo Ansers? well im makin mi own. if u want 2 ask a question, den put ur question an put ur nic name. if u want to anser a question, den put 2 hooevers question ur anserin, den anser da question den put ur nic name."
What the hell is that all about? I shall be having a word when she gets home from school!

i know it's really bad - but it is just the way things are nowadays ( oh me ,i sound like I'm 200 years old !!!) I'm scotch and people do tend to write things in their own dialect " ken fit a' mean like " i work at the airport and i find alot of people form the London area have more or less invented this new language that takes bits form one culture and another - i cant think of any of the words at the moment but when ever i hear it it reminds me of Ali G and i cant for the life of me understand what he is going in about ( i am only 30 and still consider myself young and hip oh no !i used the word " hip " , that's not right ...... oh well .. pass me my knitting dear !!!!!!!!!!! )

lol I think that is part of the whole ebonics debate from the late 90's. Basically spelling things the way you speak it. And unfortunately we as a society in general have gotten lazy when it comes to speaking correctly. We dont pronounce words correctly anymore with the right enunciation so we spell them incorrectly.

As you say its a new language so don't expect it to follow the rules of language that you know. Knowing that 'd' stands for 't' and that 'h' is being left out is your road to learning the new language. You don't need a translator!

They could all be Jamaican? Or just lazy. I'm most concerned about the abuse of apostrophes but I can more or less understand most of the answers on here so if you have any problems then message me (click on my picture and then on 'contact nata')and I'll do my best to translate!

Most of thoses words have to come from the hip-hop generation. If you listen to their music you can hear a whole lot of those words you don't understand. Plus they also have special dictionaries for those types of words too.

Once upon a time school drop-outs were considered social failures. Now we are adopting their language and their manners. Welcome to the post-modern world, where lack of brains is celebrated is and intelligence is despised.
