Because, while Judaism first claimed that their God was genderless, the original religion was influenced by hundreds of years of patriarchal societies that saw men as being the most important members of a civilization. By the time Christianity and Islam came along as little branches off to the sides, the "he" was firmly in place, despite the supposed-"genderless" nature of the deity. Unfortunately, now there are those who refuse to see it any other way. I prefer my Wiccan Goddess and God that acknowledges the balance between female and male, the need of each for the other.

The foundation of Islamic teaching begins with God, whom Muslims call 'Allah'. The name Allah comes from the Arabic language and literally means the one and only God, as opposed to any old god with a small 'g'.

The Qur'an itself declares that Allah is the same God that spoke to the Jews and Christians. Therefore, when Muslims speak about God, they have in mind that it is the God of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad. Even Arab Christians, who speak the Arabic language, say 'Allah' when they talk about God. (the Spanish word for God is Dios, yet nobody makes the claim that it is a different God!)

The Qur'an states in this way:

"Tell (the Jews and Christians), 'We believe in the revelation which has come down to us {the Qur'an} and in that which came down to you {the Torah and Gospel}; Our God and your God is one; and it's to Him we surrender" (Qur'an 29:46)

Muslims prefer to use the name 'Allah' no matter what language is being spoken. This is because the proper name for the supreme deity cannot be made plural or altered in any way grammatically in Arabic.

"It" refers to an objects, usually ones incapable of doing much, so "it" would be disrespectful. As for he, as opposed to she, Christians believe that God had a son. God must've been the father because Mary was the mother. A father is assumed to be male.

God is referred to as a “He” because that is how he chose to reveal himself. God is a person. In the same way that you do not call a person an “It,” you would not call God an “It.”

Because religion, largely, was created by men to put order on nature.

God is referred to as "he" because men created, in their minds, that God.

Because He goes into people, and that person conceives. This is seminal. The world is programmed to receive. This is feminine. 'It', is a thing. This is material.

Take your pick, worship...

p.s. Would women really worship a feminine god, that made them in her image, complete with all the problems that are unique to women? I think there would be a lot of resentment in that relationship...

Because God is important.

Why don't we refer you as "it"?
