Flucloxacillin ( a.k.a. floxacillin) is a fluorinated cloxacilin. It is a narrow spectrum penicillin family antibiotic that is used to treat penicillin resistant bacteria. (betalactamase producers). It is related to dicloxacillin.
It kills gram positive bacteria.
Its activity is very similar to that of dicloxacillin.
I suspect that you are being teated for a skin problem (boils?), impetigo and under the skin infection called cellulitis.. As this antibiotic is effective against resistant strains of the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. (which causes the above diseases). S. aureus lives on the skin of 60% of North Americans, and it hides in the nose.
Flucloxacillin is also sold under the trade names flupen, and floxapen.
