jim_darwin, if I didn't have a boyfriend already, I would marry you.

well Jim I know this will take a great leap, but when it says..
Mat 13:18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
That means that he is going to tell a parable, which is a story that explains truth even though the story is about sheep or something like that..
There are poems in the Bible, and some books are written about God from the point of view of the writer.
I will get someone to send you a memo and maybe an angel to deliver it APS (angel postal service) or you could do like the rest of the world and read some of the explanations at the front of each book. (found in study bibles)
One or the other will work out..
You know I just got a crazy, radical idea mmmm it might work but I don't know.. You could of all things go to a pentecostal church where you live and just listen to what is going on.. Maybe?? Who knows, it might save the angel a lot of work delivering the memo..

That seems like a hard question to answer but it is not. You see there are many "so called" bibles out there that have just been created. They are new and they are mixed up versions of the older texts. So it would be hard for someone who doesn't believe or who is knew to the faith to know what exactly to believe. Believe what has lasted the longest. Believe the WHOLE Bible also. Yes it was written in a different time so you have to go back to that time and think about how it was back then and then apply it to daily life now. There is no Memo just the KJV Holy Bible and you can trust it from front to back. It does not have a copyright so noone has "just written it" God wrote it. Jesus loves you so much that he died for you and many people have died protecting the KJV Bible so you would be able to hear how much love He has for you. Trust God, Trust Jesus to forgive you of your sins and accept Him and His word Today.

Use the Wesleyan Quadralateral....Scripture, Reason, Tradition, Experience. Do not blindly follow just because it is written in an ancient text that has been translated 47 times. Read the scripture, consider traditional values and practices, draw from your personal experience and lastly use your God given ability to reason. It will bring alot into perspective.

Jim, if you are a fundamentalist, you take EVERYTHING from the bible as literal. The other stuff like slavery and sleeping with a guy's mother, you pretend that's not there.

If it says something happened or will happen- take it literal. If it says "like" or uses a term like "appeared as though" it is a metaphor or simile. There are parables, or made up stories to make a point-they are teaching tools. All the rest should be taken literally. Please don't choke on it.

That's what school was for to understand and comprehend what your reading, what ever it is. Why do so many not have trouble understanding it when they actually read with, and study it for that purpose. If the Bible is as unclear and contradictory as many accuse it of it would have vanished away with other dead books many generations ago.

Some say everything in the Bible is literal, some say nothing... I say listen to your heart to know the inner truth of anything!

its called metaphors and similies. if you read the entire bible, and reference to other parts of it, it makes sense. but if you just take a scripture here, a book there, it wont work. You need to know the whole thing to be fluent enough to discuss and decide your opinion and beliefs on it
