Roy abused and embarrassed John Ruiz for 12 rounds for the WBA version of the title in '03. He moved in and out on Ruiz and didnt let him use his weight against him. Roy weighed 190 for the fight and Ruiz weighted about 235. Roy never really hurt him but he gave him a boxing lesson. Roy could have fought Lennox Lewis for his 2 versions of the title but he was smart enough to know that Lennox was way to big at 6'5" 250 pounds. And he knew that Lennox has a devestating jab and overhand chopping right hand that woulda put Roy to sleep. Roy was no fool and he took the lighter, predictable and SLOW Ruiz. He gave up the title without defending it because he knew that he wouldnt last long as a heavyweight even though the talent pool is thin as paper. One wrong blow couldve ended his title reign. Seeing how his career turned out though, maybe he shoulda kept it and defended it once aginst a #5 contender or something. Then he couldve retired on top.

He won the WBA heavyweight title in 2003 by beating John Ruiz, who was the easiest of the various alphabet champions for him to fight. I doubt he would have done so well against of the other heavyweight titlists.
