I have had anxiety and panic attacks for years. my attacks have always been associated and caused by my feeling of mental anxiety, but lately i have been having panic attacks that are not brought on by anything. i can just be sitting and relaxing and boom, i have all the physical symptoms of an attack. and there is no gradual progression into an attack it just hits me like a ton of bricks. anyone know why why this could be happening? And what i could do to try to identify it and get a grip on it before it gets uncontrollable?

i do see a doctor for this and am on medication to control these attacks. but that only works for when i actually have an attack. i am looking to avoid them all together.

guess i should add that i am bi polar and have been dealing with these conditions for a long while. the panic attacks i have had lately are completely different than what i am used to. thats what has me worried.

I used to have the same thing, so I can identify with you. All of a sudden and for no reason, I would get deathly afraid and begin to hyperventilate. If I went outside and got some fresh air, I would calm down quickly. However, these attacks continued for well over a year. My doctor said I was in a stress-filled job. He prescribed Prozac for me, and I immediately felt better and not so depressed. BUT, it wasn't until I left a high paying, stress-filled job that I got completely better, and I haven't had such an attack for well over 15 years. Check with your doctor and discuss with him/her your work situation as well as other stresses in your life. He will help you.

If you're going to have a panic attack, you're having them at a normal time. If you know something really stressful is going to happen or might get more stressful, try to work off your anxiety by going for a walk, the gym, at a dance class. Take deep breaths, but not too deep, clench you entire body for about 40 sec. then relax it. Do this several times. Also, if you know stress is getting to you, get some chamomile pills at the grocery or health food store. Take a few. Ginger pills (etc.) are also good for the nervous stomach. I don't think you need a prescription since this isn't a daily or near daily situation.

I just think you have bipolar or something else maybe and we all get pains and tight muscles and stuff sometimes, maybe you also have a health reason or it was caused by a medicine you took or are taking! To be sure see a doctor! This is not one of those things you can ask on here and be helped completely.

Try taking up Yoga and making it a part of your life. It will be best if you take a morning class. The relaxation techniques may help you. I know it works. I also suffer from anxiety. You have to go to the classes everyday and really work on your breathing.

You might be bipolar.....I am and this happens to me a lot. Things can be going just fine and the next thing I know I'm sobbing. I know it sucks. It's called a mood swing, more precisely for Bipolars its called "hitting a low". Do you ever have tons of energy and fleeting thoughts? Talk to your regular Dr. and tell him exactly how you feel. He will probably refer you to a mental health clinic. They can hook you up with meds that will really help. If you ever need to talk, I'm here, and I know what you are going thru.

have you ever thought about seeing an individual therapist? maybe someone whose speciality is anxiety and possibly hypnosis? you might have tried this in the past (or currently) find a combination of meds, therapy and support that works the best for you

You most likely have a chemical imballance in your brain that's causing this problem. You should see a doctor -- there are several medications that can help you greatly with this issue!
