He has returned to his native country and is now about to start the process of returning back to america to become legal to live here. He has lived here his entire life since he was two years old. He went to school and just graduated with a bacholors degree in Mechincal Engineering and was employed with an egineering company. His company said that they will sponcer him to come back. Can anyone tell me if they themselves or possibly you know of someone who had to go through this, how long the process takes. He had spoken with his immagration lawyer and they said that getting married was not going to help us much since the process wouldve taken longer. I planned to spend the rest of my life with him as we were together for four years until all this blew up on us. He had always thought he was born here until his parents were deported earlier this month. I would appericiate tasteful comments in this matter as this is very hard for me. Thanks for any help!

Good for him.

Good for you.

Good luck!

I don't know how long it takes, and I think he should definitely be given priority if I wrote the laws. I don't know why marriage should take longer, but I leave those comments to those who have been through it.

Regarding Pancha's advice, all I can say is I have heard you have to have entered legally in order to get someone in after marriage. Maybe a tourist visa counts. If you have spoken to an attorney, I'd have to defer to him, though.

In case he is a flake you could always call the immigration service and ask what they think. I don't work with immigration, but agency staffers typically know their rules pretty well, and you have a very sympathetic case.

What kind of country is this? Hello, the guy grew up here. His parents sound like decent people if they produced an educated son. I think it was foolish of him leaving.
I think his best bet is to apply for a Master's program in the U.S. Florida International University has a lot of foreign students and an excellent engineering program. When I did my MBA (I am American by birth, latina by the grace of God), there were many highly-educated immigrants with student-visas. A lot of them were trying to get sponsored before they graduated. I'm not for inviting the criminal element to stay, but let's use some common sense folks. This young man sounds like he would contribute greatly to society. I'm telling you, the world is upside down!

P.S. you should marry him, it will weigh in all the other factors(but, only if you truly love him).

I'm so sorry to hear your story. If he really wants to become a citizen, which it sounds like he does, it shouldn't take too long for the process to be complete. All he really has to do is get a temporary resident card, then a permanent one after he's been here for a while. After a certain number of years he can take a test to become a citizen. Don't worry, just be patient and things will work out for you. :)

Did he not have any legal papers??? That's sad to hear, besides marriage, just like you mentioned if his company sponsors him to come back here it will be a lot faster. Or if he gets married and the wife gets pregnant that will make things somewhat faster. Best of wishes, I have some friends who are going through the same turmoil.

The rules are not heartless-he will get a lot of bonus points. Following laws, school, work-family and friends ties. Relax-it will be ok. It will take time-be patient. And if you marry you will not burden your children because you have followed the rules well. Again rejoice it will work out the best way.

While this is a sad situation, the fault lies with his CRIMINAL parents. They broke the law coming here, and he had no choice at that point! He is doing right by going back to his native country and trying to come back legally! It shows that he has honor, and is willing to sacrifice to do the right thing!

I wish you both luck!

I wish other illegal aliens had the same moral fiber as he does. I commend him, and hope he makes it back soon.

frankyglitz, did you not read that he left on his own accord to do it the right way? That is commendable, not foolish. What is foolish is people like you condoning people being here illegally.... Apparently he agreed.
