I am fairly small, 4'11 and 96 lbs, I am in okay shap. Whenever I run on the track the soles of my feet always hurt after about .25 of a mile. Is it because I am not using the right running technique. I wear running shoes, so it can't be the shoes. Also, when I try to play basketball, the soles hurt when I run too. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Maybe the shoes you are wearing are not giving you proper support. Try insoles with arch support, or go see a podiatrist.

Just because you have a quality athletic shoe, doesn't mean they are the right ones for *your* feet. I would suggest going to an athletic shoe store that offers custom fitting. They take an imprint of your foot and match it to the type of support you need. I noticed a HUGE difference in how far I could run with better support. Good Luck.

Could be your technique, but also could be a condition called "Plantar Fascitis" That is when the fascia (thin layer of muscle-type fibers which cover the muscles and tendons on the bottom of your foot) become inflammed and tight. Try placing your sole on a tennis ball and rolling it around, or massaging the bottom of your foot (both of whcih will help loosen up those fibers). This may help, but it may not. Good luck

If your footwear is even ½ inch too big for your feet they will rub and cause friction. That will cause sore soles. Go to a good shoe store and get a free fitting. (late in the day to accomodate any swelling)

you should go to a shoe store that specializes in running shoes and get fitted. the shoes you are wearing may not have the proper support, or may just be old and wearing out.
they can also look at your stride and see it thats causing it. a proper running stride for distance running should go heel to toe. your heel should hit first then roll into your toe, not 'flat footed' where the bottom of your foot hits all at once.

Maybe you just need some better shoes, I've known people that can hardly wear running shoes unless it's a certain brand because their feet are crazy, literally. I've seen it happen before.

You might have bone spurs or calcium deposits in the soles of your feet. Those can be mighty painful.
