I think that many people who claim some form of Christianity as their chosen religion are not terribly interested in living a truly christian life. I mean, religion is for many people an excuse, or a comfort blanky, or something to that effect, but is not a way of life, as it should be. People shouldn't only be Christains on sunday, or saturday, or whenever. It should be a part of the way you think, the decisions you make, and the goals we have in life. So in answer to your question, yes, I think that many of us as Christians have forgotten who we are and why we're here. That's probably one of the reasons that the world is in such bad shape.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”
In the Bible the apostle Paul states: "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work." And the apostle Paul also said: "When you received God's word, which you heard from us, you accepted it, not as the word of men, but, just as it truthfully is, as the word of God."—2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13.

"THE word of God is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword . . . and is able to discern thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12) This description of what God's Word can accomplish surely stamps the Bible as more than just a good book.

Yes, every day we are forgetting our calling and our commission. We are being distracted by wealth and affluence and political power. Yet this is not the case, as much, in Church communities in the third world where the gospel is spreading like wild fire.
Jesus was right (of course!!!) when he said that we cannot serve both Mammon and God. One or the other and North American Christians serve Mammon whether we say it or not. We need to repent!

I haven't, but sadly, many Christians are too busy worrying about trying to prove themselves to be right rather than sharing the Gospel with people. They have too much pride in themselves.
