He's studying for the Bar and I want to make life a little bit easier for him....but I can't think of anything other than food and maybe pens/pencils. He's too busy now to read a "fun" book or do a puzzle...
Any suggestions?

I wish you had said where you are located in relation to him. If you're in the same town, you can bring over a meal that he can easily re-heat. If not, there are at least some snacks you could mail to him. If you can afford to splurge a bit, there are some fantastic food packages that Zingerman's will deliver.
On the cheap and fun end, you can find all kinds of bizarre and tasty snacks at international grocers, especially ones that sell goods from Japan. Some of them are not clearly labeled in English, so don't be afraid to ask what is in them.
He will probably be going through lots of coffee, too, so a pound of whatever his favorite brand is would go a long way. Same thing with tea, just as long as you know what he likes. Sometimes, he may be too wrapped up in studying to bother with making himself a coffee or tea, so a gift card for his local coffee shop could be a nice way for him to take his work with him for a bit.
If he's doing more writing than typing, there are some nicer pens and pencils that have an ergonomic grip for better comfort. He may want to step out to a coffee shop for an occasional change of scenery, so a decent spiral bound journal with a sturdy cover will make transporting his notes a lot easier than most notepads, which typically fall apart fast.
Also, send him notes of encouragement, telling him how proud you are of him for taking on this tremendous challenge.

Seeing he is studing try not to side track him!! Get him things to make him think of you for a moment then go back to studing!! The bar is hard and stressful!! Not everyone passes it. I see smart people fail. So please don't side track him!!
He shouldn;t be listening to cd's or looking at naked pictures of you. This is about him not you. This is something he has worked hard for. Please don't take that away from him!!
This is really a sweet idea. I guess if it was for my man I'd get him things I know he will need as a lawyer. Possibly a really nice brief case. Refrence books he may not have. Really nice pens with his name on them for when he becomes a lawyer. I would also set up a special date with him. I'd take him (or make it) to have his favorite food. Go to a neighboring town and stay at a nice hotel and just relax with him!!
You could also help him start his collection of suits that he is going to need!!
Whatever you do PLEASE do not get in the way of studing!!

maybe a couple relaxation cd's. davids answer is hirlarious!
deffinatley pictures of you two, non perishable goodies for him and his study buddies, a little, "you are a champion" trophie.
a jar of positive little notes from you and possible family and friends that he can pull one out everytime he needs a pick me up. i love the law for dummies idea, maybe send that too, not that he is a dummy! you can also send toiletries and such because i'm sure he is busy and the less time he has to spend going to the store for the boring necessities the better. i'm sure anything you send him will be a welcome distraction.

Send photos of you of course, maybe make him a mix CD of songs you know he likes. Send him some candles or incense so he can relax. Maybe a reading light for reading at night. Index cards for notes and to make flash cards for studying.

Record a Good sweet message recorded in a recorder / cassette .
Make sure that this is not sex related..but letting him know how much you love him & care for him and what you want to do with him when he is around....( this part can have sex )
Then a cute greeting card with your pic , cut & paste on it ( or pic of your lips )
& of course ....some candies.

If you're a romantic couple: Put something in that has 'your' smell on it (not nasty niffs though!!) for example cuddle up for a few nights with a teddy bear or spray it with your favourite perfume so he can cuddle it in the privacy of his room. It'd help him think of you when he's lonely or stressed!

make a simple photo collage or album of you and his family/friends...easy to do with a digital camera
maybe a little vile of your perfume that he likes the best
a diary or journal of letters/quotes/thoughts, etc. from you...
just make it real personal and touching
i've recieved a roll of quarters in a care package for vending machines and/or laundry mats...
and i'm sure there're lists on line you can look up, also.
