Some times people make a mistake and hangup right away. Why would they tell you that they made a mistake? It would sound like they want something to do with you. Which you probably already think. Or am I wrong? They were just calling some one else and your dumb number got in the way. Don't take it to the heart!

Sometimes caller IDs mess up but it is probably because either they accidentally called you or they like you and were scared and or embarrassed.

The person probably has their mobile phone in their pants pocket and is accidently pressing the speed dial key upon moving and sitting. It's a common (annoying) occurance.
Ask them to lock their keypad, usually the 'menu' and '*' key.

Because it's probably a person that is too irresponsible to admit to the call, too childish to even be using the phone or just has too much time in their hands.

compulsive liar or maybe they are telling you the truth and it was purely an accident that their phone called yours and they didn't know until you told them.
