I have heard of arguments against premarital sex, mostly accompanying the adage, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free"?

Do they think so poorly of the woman that they are willing to tell her to her face that she's not worth marrying except for sex?

Am I missing something about the wisdom of this adage? My friend's mother told her that, and I had to bite my tongue. Why would a mother tell her daughter that a man doesn't need to marry her if she puts out? She is intelligent and nice, and she proved her mother wrong by marrying a great guy, even though she engaged in premarital sex.

So, are mothers intentionally being cruel to their daughters by implying that they are only good for sex, or do people just not think about what this comment really says?

The proper response is "Once he tastes MY milk, no other drink is EVER going to satisfy him again. His whole life will be remembering what happened once and hoping it will happen again."

And yes, this sort of "sentiment" is insulting to women, to men, and to marriage itself. It implies that men are foolish enough to marry simply to procure a convenient sexual outlet, and that marriage is some sort of glorified prostitution.

Tha adage comes from old school thinking. Remember that it wasn't too long ago that women were limited to being "barefoot & pregnant".

There is some wisdom to this line of thinking. It cautions young women to be careful not to give sex away to just any old shmo.

It doesn't mean mothers are trying to be cruel, rather they are attempting to help their daughters avoid a very common mistake: thinking that sex is a good way to keep a man.

It's so nice to see a thought-provoking and intelligently phrased question on here! And you raise a very good point. I certainly hope that mothers don't tell their daughters that adage out of cruelty, but it is horribly demeaning to women.

I think we all hope that guys are interested in us for more than just sex! A relationship is so much more. What a terrible message for mothers to pass onto their daughters. I hope they have simply not thought it through.

you got assorted questions on your question there. On maximum aspects i'd believe what you've suggested. on the aspects i do not believe i imagine it has extra to do with our definitions of "properly and incorrect" without stepping right into an ethical debate the following that's my take. Society has twisted and widely used the very undeniable actuality that youthful men are raging with hormones and it really is perfect, no anticipated for them to be sexually lively. That their "objective" from 13-30 is to upward push as a lot as they can with getting a STD or a shotgun marriage. I agree maximum sense that finally they're anticipated to "cool down" "fall in love" and change right into a real individual. women persons on the different hand are held through society to be "the in charge one" they're to save from getting pregnant, they're to search for "good" companions. they're assume to look ahead to undesirable people because they stay with the consequences of a nasty one longer then men do. in short society has taken the stand that as quickly because it contains sex women persons are to guard it and men are to target to get it. So at the same time as a lady is giving it and by no skill getting something decrease back for it she is getting milked. the position it really is anticipated for men to do a touch milking previously getting a farm. Society is incorrect in what's sweet.

you are way over thinking this...there was a time where sex was saved for marriage and something you made your future husband wait for...thus, why would he marry you if he was getting it anyway...albeit arcane now and a bit ridiculous, some people still recite....probably more applicable, is that most men do not see girls who sleep with them easily as someone they would marry...like everything else, this is not set in stone, but ask any guy what he thinks of a girl who sleeps with him on a first date or meeting and most likely marriage material aint included in those thoughts

put it like this. if the woman or man is putting out, and they live together for 5-15 years, and they act married and she or he is doing everything like a husband/wife, what's the point of marrying that person when they don't have 2 have a full committment and everything is being done for them?

now, i wouldn't say to my future child that tehy are only good for sex, but i would say that "you're good enough to f*ck, but not good enough for him/her to marry you because he/she still hasn't married you after all this time. plus you're doing everything to the point to where he/she doesn't have to make a committment."
