Not so much Egypt anymore, but some other parts of Africa. It's called a cliteridectomy, or female circumcision. And if you think that's bad, there are also parts where at the same time they also sew the vaginas of young girls together except for a tiny slit. The husband then gets to literally cut her open a few years later. Obviously the cases of infection and death are pretty high. Fortunately that's just isolated tribal practice, though clitoridectomies are apparently coming back in vogue. Talk about male insecurity.

Yes, unfortunately. I trained as a doctor in Leeds in the mid 1980's and did a couple of rotations in Obs and Gyni. It was fairly common to have immigrant women in that were having problems with sex , conception or that were pregnant and had been refered by GPs and midwives that were concerned that a normal prima gravida birth would be dangerous/impossible. I have seen women that looked like they had had their clitoris, labia minora, vulva and parts of their labia majora machettied off and the resulting jagged wound roughly pulled together and crudely stiched up. The worst was made worse due to massive kiloid formations across the whole scare area that left her disfunctional as a woman in all normal ways. Surgury tidied her up and made intercourse possible for her husband but there is no way she would feel much or enjoy enything in that area..
How I hate those do gooders that say cultural practices and religions should be respected. This practice has to be stanped out.

in certain african countries (somalia for example) they go a lot further ( full female circumcision, removal of the lips)
this is done with a razor blade on young girls without anesthetics
This barbaric act is also carried out in my country (u.k) by immigrants who bring their culture with them and see no wrong in it!
