Why do religious fanatics feel they must protect the “Sanctity of Marriage” from homosexuals?

1. In LasVegas, NV on any given day, a heterosexual couple, (usually drunk off their butt or high on drugs) can marry on the same day they meet. Is that Sanctity of Marriage?

2. A heterosexual can marry and divorce an unlimited number of times. Is that Sanctity of Marriage?

3. What do people wanting to marrying animals have to do with gays having the right to marriage equality?

Marriage protectionists are hypocritical since heterosexuals thenselves do not respect the Sanctity of Marriage.

What have marriage protectionists done to preserve the Sanctity of Marriage besides deny it to others?

PS: Ever read the 14th amendment?

PS: I have read and studied the bible. I still wonder how all the animals from Noah's ark made it safely to Australia.

You're absolutely right. Many Christians who oppose same sex marriage are actually not concerned about the sanctity of marriage at all. They're only interested in protecting the traditional definition of marriage, not marriage itself.

Even if they're only concerned about the traditional definition of marriage as defined in the Bible, who says anyone's trying to change their religious definition? If you believe that marriage should be limited to a man and a woman, then by all means, attend a church where marriage is limited to heterosexual couples. No one says we're going to make churches change their definition. That separation of church and state thing works both ways. The government can't force churches to accept gay marriage; it's each individual church's (or denomination's) right to define marriage as between a man and a woman if they wish. All it would change is the definition of marriage in state or federal law. Hence, the religious definition of marriage would remain unchanged.

As for the "slippery slope" argument concerning beastiality, it's ridiculous. It's nothing more than a logical fallacy being used as a diversionary tactic in order to avoid having to discuss the issue in a rational manner. We could turn the same argument around and use it against them, as well: "If a man is allowed to marry a woman, who's to say that a man won't be allowed to marry two women, or three women, or however many women he wants some day?" In fact, the link between heterosexual monogamy and heterosexual polygamy already exists: certain Christian denominations, such as Mormonism, already embrace polygamy in the name of "traditional heterosexual marriage."

And they claim the homosexuals are the ones threatening traditional marriage. Go figure.

Whether people respect or abide by the Sanctity of Marriage does not change it's sanctity. People run red lights but its still against the law whether they get caught or not. If you are a believer of God then marriage would be between a man and a woman. That's how it should be. I don't have anything against homosexuals I think they are good people. But some very good people may go to hell because of their "sexuality".I know that God can change the heart of anyone who is willing to let him in there heart. It is the job of politicians to stand up for what the people believe is right. Right by God...One Nation under God indivisible for liberty and justice for all. Now my justice may not be your justice. But God's justice will prevail. The sanctity of marriage comes from the covenant made between man, woman, and God. We often forget God and this is the reason for divorce and people marrying in Las Vegas. And my heavens wanting to marry an animal...y? The only way to preserve the sanctity of marriage is by your own life style. One person can make a difference.....That's why there isn't prayer in schools now.

The "sanctity of marriage" has long since been abandoned. That sacredness was abandoned when divorce became the norm, when alimony was invented and with the creation of the prenuptial agreement. People no longer use marriage as the institution that it was written to be, instead it is a way to "get over". It has become more like just something to do. There is no longer "Sanctity" in marriage. I say that we should rename the whole union. Any suggestions??

Well, Sanctity is more or less a religious word. Like someone before me said - the vow between God, man, and a woman. And most of the religious people always go back to that part in the bible about homosexuals. Lev. 20 13: If man lies with man as he lies with woman, both of them have commited and abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood upon them. That's what most people have a problem with when it comes to "Sanctity of Marriage" seeing as how Marriage is a religious thing. Other than that - who knows.

You're right. Some heterosexuals do violate the sanctity of marriage. So maybe we shouldn't let people get married in Las Vegas. And ban all divorce clinics. lol....I've never heard of anyone marrying an animal, but that's disgusting...just like homosexuality is disgusting.

Those are 4 reasons why we should protect the sanctity of marriage.

And, just like some heterosexuals violate it, homosexuals do too. Protect it from anyone who violates it. Deal?

To answer the question, Sanctity of Marraige is the pact between God, and the two becoming one to respect, cherish and honor one another. The reason why I say "the two" is because people are actually violating the Bible. In logic, if homosexual marraiges are supposedly against the Bible, than marrying a dolphin(in the news a couple of months ago) is against the Bible as well because that marraige is outside of the purposes of love and to reproduce. That's one of the reasons of marraige: controlled reproduction. If we were allowed to marry multiple women, the world would be overcrowded by now. At any rate, I believe that the decision for a same sex marraiges should be between God, and the two making the decision. I suppose, if animals could do it, we should be able to as well.

1&2... no, those wouldn't constitute a christian marriage...but you have to realize that a lot of ppl today get married not seeing it as something sacred, but only something to do because it's always been done.
3.... huh?? that's sick

There is a separation of church and state so they don't have the right to preach morals. However, they also tend to ignore that they aren't supposed to take any sort of part in politics. Technically, though, marriage as defined my it's origins is a sacred union under God by a man and woman.
I think people just get upset over the use of the word 'marriage'...like, it wouldn't be such a big deal if it were called something else.

I can give you a good healthy and hearty Amen. I agree that the whole protection of marriage amendment is a crock but we are coming to an election year and the politicians are pandering to the homophobia of average Americans (not all) for votes. Change in a society comes slowly when it is mixed up with religion and mores. This too will change... just like women and blacks got the right to vote and slaves were freed. It won't happen soon but it will have to happen because problems more real and pressing will eventually show themselves and the public will pressure them to solve the real problems instead of pretending to solve something that is actually no problem at all.

I don't understand "sanctity of marriage" either. I don't understand why a homosexual marriage would somehow make a heterosexual marriage less special. Doesn't the specialness depend on the two people within the relationship?

First you must believe that marriage between a man and woman (only) is ordained of God. I do believe people that marry and divorce because of convenience will be judged harder than a person who was abused or something like that that divorced.
