Go to churches. They usually have food pantries.
Also, try the social security administration office, they have emergency food stamps available.
There are also soup kitchens and homeless shelters available. Try the phoen book or google local for your town.
There are also family agencies in your town that have food on hand.
When you do get some money, check out my answer for meals $5 and under. Mac and cheese with tuna added (and peas if you have some) can be really cheap. There is also cereal or oatmeal. If you buy tuna helper, that can be a meal for 2 people; the store brand is usually $1, and you can get a can of tuna for less than a dollar.

This depends upon what you have on hand. If you have a few things in the kitchen - crackers or peanut butter for instance or even a banana that could tide him over. If you have only a little money, go to the store and focus on getting a few cheap healthy staples such as peanut butter (if there are no allergies), bread (preferably whole grain as this tends to make people feel fuller longer), milk, and raw vegetables. Anything high in fiber will keep you fuller for longer. Stay away from anything too fatty, salty, or sweet. While these foods are convenient (and tasty), they fullness you get from them tends to be short lived and - in the case of sweets - sometimes you feel hungrier afterwards. Also - don't waste money on a limited budget on sweet drinks (even juice) - it is better to have the fullness of a raw piece of fruit than juice, soda or sweetened beverages.
If you have no money and no food there are lots of resources available. Food pantries and soup kitchens abound. Check your phone book or call up your health department - they usually have a list. Local area churches (even if you aren't a member) also often have food resources. If you are really depserate, you can also check out local grocery stores, restaurants and bakeries. Many businesses will give away extra food for free or very cheap when they close for the day. Then, go to your nearest Food Stamp office (the Health Department could also help you with this). If you have no income and no money, they will give you emergency food stamps within seven days and if you have some money or income and still qualify, you can have it within thirty days. Finally, since you child is five you could probably qualify for WIC - Women Infants and Children. Again, call your Department of health so they can give you the nearest office.
Good luck and if you have any further questions, feel free to email me. I am a Social Worker and do this all the time.

1) you can find a listing of local churches, call them and ask for some assistance. 2) you can drop him off with a relative while you look for a job as a waitress that will enable you to bring home cash money and food everytime you work a shift. 3) you can stop spending time online entertaining yourself with yahoo questions and actually do something instead of asking a million strangers for advice when it's YOUR child. In the time you spent writing your question, you could have been walking around a grocery store stuffing food into his pants. If he gets caught you can always say, "Oh, he's just a kid, sorry." I know this is setting a bad example, but it's better than him going hungry. If it was my kid, I'd be out on the street corner by now if that's what it took to feed him.

You are in a bad spot. Why do you have a hungry 5 year old and proceed to tell us this on a computer that can be sold for money to buy food?

How about ramen or macaroni and cheese boxes (chesse sauce can be made with water instead of milk in a tight spot)? They each only cost a few cents and will fill up a 5 year old.

See if maybe you can go to the food pantry maybe? A local church feeding people. I've been in your "spot" before and it's just me no kids and I've had to ask friends for help, you'd be surprised at what you get. Good luck

If you are in a bottle deposit state like I am, go in search of returnables. If not ask a friend or a relative if your child can join them for dinner.
Find a lawn to mow or rake, a house to clean, an errand to run to make a little extra cash or get a couple of meals in exchange.
(It might not be her computer.)

sell stuff, don't spend time on the internet which you could be spending looking for a job or working. if the need is really high, which i doubt since you're on the net wasting time, ask neighbours and/ or friends for some food.
