I am moving from New York City to Georgia in a few months and wonders what should I expect to do on my time away from school. I have never lived in the south and want to know what I may expect from my new environment with the people in it. Please be descriptive. Virtual hugs and kisses:)

I moved to Atlanta from NYC 3 1/2 years ago. Great town for food, entertainment - concerts, sports, etc. You will need to drive everywhere, most things are located outside of "downtown" and few people live there. Buckhead is 1 hot spot for clubs, bars, etc - but the whole city is laid out similiar to the 5 boroughs of NYC - however Atlanta doesn't have the mass transit like NYC.
Extremely friendly people, the words "ma'am, sir" are used daily and the Southern culture of respect is still alive and well - men open doors for women, etc. If you can take the heat, and have a car - it is a great city to live in. I don't plan to move back to NY and am getting married to a lovely Southern Belle. WIll probably die here.

Its a bit slower than NY,and smaller, the people the good ones will want to know you, dont be upset if they want to hug you we do do alot of that here in the south.
On a much smaller scale but most anything (other than going to all those boring late night talk shows) you'll find in Atlanta.
Land, and Homes are mostly cheaper, taxes are a bit better.
Dont be offended when someone refers to you as a 'damn yankee' they me that in a joking friendly fashion.
Welcome

Not answering your question, but WHY THE HECK DO PEOPLE LEAVE NY TO COME DOWN TO THE SOUTH?I have never understood that. I go to New York every summer and wish every time that I live there. It's quieter(upstate anyway) and there's tons of things to do and if you want a change of vista, you hop into your car and drive into Canada AND THE SUMMER AND TRAFFIC IS BEARABLE THANKS TO THE SUBWAY

You'll hate the people. They're a bunch of jesus freaks who play social games constantly. However, there is Six Flaggs. There are lots of places to shop and tons of bars, night clubs, theatres, etc.
