Well it's a little obvious that whoever gets elected, will have an impact on this subject. What do you think it's going to happen? If you know about the proposals of the candidates, who do you favor? What do you think will be better for Mexico, as for what is going on in the government, a leftist party or an extreme right party? This will mean a huge impact on the subject of immigration to our neighbor country (you, the U.S.A.)
Elections will be on July the 2nd.

Obrador says he wont let beans etc come in under the NAFTA deadline. Our government is saying it must occur as scheduled. Personally, I think NAFTA was never looked at as having a potential impact on immigration, and I think that dialog would be healthy. I'm not even sure which side I'd be on.
However, big business here wants both cheap labor AND free trade, and would be more comfortable with Fox's party. Much as I hate the thought, they may well come out the winners over here, which would put Mexico in a position of maybe getting significantly loosened immigration (legally) for poor immigrants. I don't know if they would be comfortable horse trading with Obrador. Big business (right or wrong) has a suspicion that those on the left don't consider themselves bound by agreements once they get what they want.
This is just speculation. I'd rather not have Obrador because he seems volatile. I don't vote there, however.
By the way, I found an article that might interest you. I don't know if I agree with its conclusion, but here you go: http://www.whittierdailynews.com/opinions/ci_3991732

There is a good chance that Lopez Obrador of the PRD party will win the coming elections. I've been analyzing his new economic model he wants to implement and it looks really bad for direct foreign investment which Mexico depends highly upon. Mark my words, if this guy wins, the massive exodus of illegals will get worse. Remember, the corporations in Mexico are the ones that generate employment and pay the majority of taxes, poor don't pay taxes because they don't have jobs or money. This guy is so into socialism, his government will have no money for all the social plans he intends. Mexico's poor population needs more employment not hand-outs. He is just like Fox, making promises impossible to keep just to win the elections.

Well, I sure hope so, because the more signs their are that Mexico's leaders aren't taking issue with the problem, the more the american public will be to take issue with it. We have recall elections in america, and we've got the freedom to assemble, too, and if you think that laissez-faire's going to cut it anymore, you don't read the paper much. People are fed up with it. I really hope folks in Mexico 'get it', because if they don't it could get UGLY. It already has, in some areas, and the INS has a really unenviable job ahead of them. Mexico fully has the potential to support its' citizens in good style, there's no reason for all of this to even be going on except for sour-grapes agitators that have it in for america because of circumstances and events that took place long before they were born. Mexico's got a HUGE corruption problem to digest, and the sooner people get working on it, the sooner it'll be over and done with, and you'll see a lot of people moving home voluntarily. It's time.
