Ha, this is a toughy....!
Certainly more domineering male gets it. Why, because the other - meek one - does not have the guts to wrestle for it.
This does not mean, in a man/woman TV watching episode woman is meek. It is a convention that man decides. Yes, ALL the way. So, there can be no doubt about that one. It is also the sane thing to do.
Woman - don't get upset ok? - that's just the way it is because you are more understanding and giving. Man loves you. Odd times, I see the woman gets it but - that's only to show the man who has the better control. Eventually that settles down, and man agrees that the woman has the upper hand and he has the remote anyway.
It is fun. A silent tussle.

that's why i have three tv's. So my boys( bf, and 2 sons) dont have to argue over the remote. Usually though, they all want to watch the same programs so its not a big deal anyway, and I can just retire to another room to watch something more entertaining. Of course, there are times that they just have to wrestle for it.

There should not be one master. The use of the remote should be shared and not hogged by just one person. Tell your guy to grow-up.

I defer to anyone else. The programs I want are automatically recorded on the TIVO. I rarely watch live TV.

whoever hides it and finds it first... additional details - the stronger or the one with more power will dominate... hence if father has remote... and son wants it... then father can say clean your room, and he has to because it's now his responsibility
