It was mainly Raman Noodles for me, and we'd put sliced american cheese in them, eggs, anything we had in the fridge, but a roommate had a friend that worked at a mexican restaurant, and we were soooo broke, that he actually brought us a 20lb. bag of refried beans! I couldn't eat them again for about four years!

There's one that still a great favorite. Beef Ramen noodles with a glob of peanut butter stirred in to make "peanut noodles".

Stale hot dog buns became "garlic toast".

We used to pick up cans of tuna fish at the end of lent when they went down to 10 cents a can and used them all year long. Stir them into a bowl of hot noodles with some garlic powder, celery salt and mayonnaise. Mix with mustard and plain yogurt and eat on crackers with some seafood sauce (like the little packets we used to get from Long John Silvers).

Mostly though, we got really good at saving condiment packs wherever we went and using them to spice up rice and noodles.

BTW, a little parmesan left over from pizza delivery sprinkled on hot popcorn is a wonderful little treat.

I remember those days! One of my favorite was sliced potatoes with broccoli and cheese and chopped up tomatoes. I had that quite often. I also had good old mac and cheese.
