Try benadryl spray. It stops the itching immediatly. If none is on hand, lick your finger and put some saliva on the bite. Yes it works, its one of those weird solutions.
Otherwise, use Off! bugspray after like 4 or 5 pm and you should be fine. Make sure the screens in your house don't have any holes in them and are secured tightly. Don't leave doors open after dusk/sunset.

deet is a good prevention... most bugs sprays have 29% deet or less. I bought a small bottle that is 100% deet, it's really greasy but I don't get bitten. I have to take extra precaution because I'm allergic to mosquitos the way some people are allergic to bees, entire limbs swell up when I get bit. So my treatment probably wouldn't apply to you. a topical antihistamine cream would probably be best for you to treat a bite

As far as treatment, do not scratch - ever! If you start, you are doomed. This advice is works well only if you never start - if you do, you might as well not worry about scratching and try other methods. As far as prevention, put the mosquito repellent right by the door so you never forget to put it on. A bit smelly - but I think far better than suffering! :)

may sound crazy, but after the bite welts up take your finger nail and make an X imprint on it. I swear it works! if you don't like the mosquito spray try sticking a dryer fabric sheet in your pant pockets. i live in south east texas, so trust me I know all kinds of tricks!

My mother believes in wiping unscratched bug bites with bleach. This seems to really take the sting out. But if you've already scratched them, the bleach tends to burn and isn't as affective. Hope this helps.

before you go out put vanilla extract on or you can use some good vanilla perfume. If you get a bite, touch it with some ammonia and the itch will stop.
