Yes, and they are the bravest of souls!
In Saudi Arabia, the headquarters of Islam, it is a serious crime to even own a Bible. Imagine living in an environment where the penalty for exercising your religious freedom is DEATH!
Noone ever got beaten, stoned, arrested, imprisoned, or killed for converting from Christianity to any other religion.
Perhaps they left Islam because they were sick of all the hypocricy and intolerance. Maybe they wanted to have a Jew or a Christian as a friend. The Quran clearly forbids this.
A friend of mine almost converted to Islam when he had separated from his wife and was going through some very hard times. He believed Islam would offer him more structure in his life, and help him to quit drinking.
He went all the way to the indoctrination phase, where they have you profess their faith. They asked him "do you renounce Jesus as your Lord and savior?" At that point he said he felt an overwhelming sense of fear and confusion. He turned around and walked out. He's now back together with his wife, has another child, and hasn't touched a drop of booze in more than 2 years.
He gives Jesus full credit for this.
Hopefully more and more Muslims will come to realize that Jesus was much more than "just another prophet" and come clean with us about how they love Mohammad more than Jesus, even though they claim to love "all prophets equally".
I considered converting to Islam not long ago, but the more I learn about Islam, the more I realize that my faith is just fine the way it is!
Peace!

Yes. I have talked with a missionary that goes to the Muslim countries frequently and has just set up an organization called "Project Endure" that is to provide material assistance to new christians in Muslim countries.
He told many stories of how, once they were christians, they rarely could find work, were disowned by their families, and were routinely abused and threatened with death and killed because they converted.
As far as why/what made them convert, I don't know much, but believe the majority was due to visions and reading the Bible.

I'm sure there are. Present Christianity is another animal. Since your question is around that, people have done so for appearance sake to improve their standing in society.
The real gospel just the opposite. Since it's by election, the fact anyone comes to truth is an actual miracle. You won't find that happening in a church anywhere on earth right now because they are rejected.
I doubt fear comes into play. The truth shall make you free. Also freedom from fear.

In Afghanistan that guy was gonna go on trial for being a Christian. If convicted, he could have faced the death penalty.

I know of one Christian who converted to Islam by marriage. I don't think anyone tried to stop him, but I don't think there's a real reason to do so anyway.
